Favourite Quo Album: On The Level

Never been keen on it. The beginning of the end, and a signpost to the future in more than one respect if the rumours about how many of the Frantic Four actually play on it are to be believed... Seems to have been more than just a rumour for a while that Roger Glover played bass on it. I'm no expert on the nuances of Alan's bass playing, but whoever played the bass line has managed to create one that fits in seamlessly with the Quo sound, and if that was Glover, then hats off to him. In other words, it sounds like Alan's playing to me!

I remember an interview with Francis and Rick where they talked about having played at least some of the drum and cymbal parts on it. There's certainly no evidence of Spud's usual style on it. As for bass, who knows? That rumour has been doing the rounds for an age. I have a mate whose dad plays with Roger Glover from time to time. Perhaps I should get him to ask!

Absolutely love Quo's version of it, one of my very favourites, always found it strange that many fans put it down, I could never tire of hearing it. This is a wee tribute I did of it, tried to replicate all the guitar parts as close as possible (and there are a few) so it's WSOL as per Quo's version and you can add your own vocal...
This is you? I have literally played this video 100 times, yesterday being the most recent. You did a great job with it. Aye that's me mate, all two of me , I think the main reason I like WSOL so much is the guitar sound they have on it, and all the little fills, some of which are actually not that easy to make out, hidden further back in the mix, using software can sometimes bring those parts up front or at least to a degree where they are more discernible, by comparison I'm not very keen on the demo version, and as for anyone else's version, like Rod Stewart's for example, I just cant listen to it at all. So for me it's the guitars that do it, I would pay good money to have the master track and hear it without the vocal and be able to bring all the guitar fills to the fore.

WSOL is just pure class from Quo. The layering is perfect. Vocals fantastic. Somebody mentions it following Rain or Mystery Song but to me it was welcomed !

Was The Wanderer not part of the "Roadhouse Medley" too? And if so, did they ever play it 3 times during the same gig? Was only ever played twice in the set, as by the time they started to play The Wanderer on its own the Roadhouse Medley had been dropped. There seems to be the odd show in 1992, during the Rock 'til You Drop tour, were they had dropped the Medley during Roadhouse... for example the January 92 show in Gothenburg Wasn't in the 90's when they played The Wanderer as a standalone track, on the Roadhouse Medley but they dropped it from the Annyversary Waltz? From No Particulare Place to Go they go straight to Lucille.

Roadhouse Medley was fully dropped after the Just For The Record tour in 1994, and The Wanderer wasn't properly played in full until the Don't Stop tour in 1995
