I like to listen to my music as albums, I love live albums but I don’t like those live albums where there are gaps between the tracks. There are many live gems from Quo which aren’t on commonly accessible albums.
Here’s a project which myself and a buddy have put together – a live Quo album made up from officially released live tracks which appear on b-sides of singles or other non-album sources. Like all such projects, there are songs which are must haves, so we’ve bent the rules a little, but NOT to allow inclusion of bootleg material. In fact, we’ve made 2 live albums – the one below is made up of earlier incarnations of the band. The other (still working on it) will be later incarnations.
Where there were gaps between the tracks which couldn’t be bridged using the crowd noise on the releases, we used crowd noise sourced from other Quo concerts or tracks. So ALL of the audio is compiled from Quo concerts.
This first album is a pretty strong album, actually. Setlist inspired by setlists around ’77-’82.
The songs are listed as Track No.-Title – Source – Line-up – Comment (if any)
1-Junior’s Wailing-1975 Live EP – FR,RP,AL,JC
2-Paper Plane-Live at Bray studios – aborted Anniversary Waltz b-side – FR,RP,JE,JR,AB - live in the studio, but a great version
3-Little Lady-Live 1989 NEC - aborted Anniversary Waltz b-side – FR,RP,JE,JR,AB
4-Dirty Water-Knebworth 1990 – FR,RP,JE,JR,AB
5-Mystery Medley Milton Keynes-Whatever You Want The Essential Collection – FR,RP,AL,PK,AB
6-Gerdundula-1975 Live EP – FR,RP,AL,JC

10-Big Fat Mama-Tokyo Quo SHM-CD – FR,RP,AL,JC,AB(?)

14-Rain-Time Life TOTP2 – FR,RP,JE,ML,AB
15-Down Down-NEC 1982– FR,RP,AL,PK,AB-on the latest NEC’82 release butoriginally a b-side
16-Bye Bye Johnny-Tokyo Quo SHM-CD – FR,RP,AL,JC,AB(?)
Please note that, as avid and (very) long-term Quo fans, we both own all of these recordings so we are not intending to infringe copyright by re-purposing the tracks - this is for fun and convenience of listening.
The audio has been manipulated to make it sound a coherent set (e.g. BBJ treble up and bass down to match the sound of Down Down before it) mainly using limiters, compressors and EQ to a greater or lesser extent. Starting with Junior’s Wailing means we start with the classic sound and the following tracks match to that (as far as possible)
