Picking up on something Francis said years ago in FTMO about writing Softer Ride with Bob, why weren’t they credited ?
Why did Rick and Alan get the credit ?

It was "only a 'b' side". So if Francis had wanted or agreed to give a song credit to Rick and Alan, this may have seemed the best option. Pure guesswork
I've asked before about Manston/James Gerdundula when it's obviously a Francis and Bob thing

A similar thing happened with the Caroline B-side, Joanne.
And there are two versions of the 7", one credited to Lancaster, the other, Lancaster/Parfitt (or Parfitt/Lancaster, can't remember which way round).
Who knows who wrote the words though.
Alan wrote Hard Ride some years later. And also Lets Ride. Maybe he was all about rides.

It's often been said that they shared the writing credits around in those early successful days. It'll have just been one of those probably. Although a song may have been brought to the table by one writer (or two), the input of the others in getting it off the ground and recorded often justifies the credit. The fact that Francis sings it suggests to me it was more than likely he and Bob. Alan and Rick tended to sing their own compositions back then. Not exclusively, of course, but in the main. Whoever wrote it, they should get a fvckin' knighthood never mind a writing credit! Best Quo B-side ever

Think it was Colin Johnson who said that he suggested to Rossi and Bob Y that, as they were the most prolific writers, they should give some credits to others in the band, just to keep things sweet.
All very messy though in reality with writing credits and they all have claimed to have hand in this song or that song. According to Rossi, Rick could over complicate tracks when writing together but I'm guessing that for many fans the over complicated or rather the twists n' turns and epic tracks were the ones that defined their vision of what Quo were about.

What Quo were all about was their variety. Not just the Long tracks. For Me I would be bored s...less of all the tracks were like that. It’s the mixture of styles / melodies on top of the Long tracks that made Quo Unique. Even the tracks like FFF / Claudie and the ballads made them !

Might have made sense to credit the songs as band (+ bob) compositions, might have made it easier to concentrate on quality & less on sharing out the credits. Maybe Rockin' All Over The World would only have 8 or 10 tracks then!
