Very sad indeed but he'd fought a long and courageous fight with throat cancer. 65 is no age.

Sad He was one of the best! I went out and bought a guitar purely because of his solo on Michael Jackson's Beat It, to try and replicate it. He was insanely brilliant

This one is a real shock Didn't even know he'd been ill. Legend after legend leaving us these past few years. R.I.P. Eddie. You were hugely influential.

So sad. Reactions keep coming from all over the world. The two best ones (from Classic Rock Magazine):
Joe Bonamassa: "Words cannot describe how monumental the loss of Edward Van Halen is to the music community. He inspired generations of guitar players of all genres. His playing was unrivalled in its ingenuity and its ferocity. Rest In Peace to the greatest Rock Guitarist of all time."
Scott Ian: "I remember the moment I heard Eruption - 9th grade lunchroom early 1978, our long hair crew sequestered at our usual table in the corner - all seven of us crowded around my friend David Karibian's little cassette player that was cued up... David was smiling at us because he’d already heard it and he knew it was going to blow our fucking minds and then he hit play... 7 jaws hit the floor at the same time and life suddenly was so much more fun."

I remember hearing Eruption for the first time as well. A mate had gone to see Black Sabbath; this will probably have been 1978. And Van Halen supported. He recommended I have a listen to their debut album. It was a bit of a 'wow' moment. Pretty much bought all the Van Halen albums after that, even when Sammy Hagar was the vocalist. Never got to see them live. Always wanted to

VH was one of the bands that got away: never saw them live, I had lost interest after Sammy joined.

Real wow moment that prompted me to buy the album and listen again and again to that Eruption!
