Son-in-law received a frantic emergency call-out on Boxing Day from the keeper of the lake where he fishes this season. The sought-after biggest monster carp had broken someone's line and was swimming frantically with the hook in its mouth and trailing a big tangle of weed caught up by the line. If it wasn't caught quickly and the hook removed it would become exhausted and die. It was rescued via a boat and net to challenge another day. It still hasn't been caught by line. This is the 2nd biggest fish in that lake. The recent rain and floods are a big worry for clubs and lake owners because fish are able to swim out of their waters and escape across what are normally fields. There is a lot of money invested in good fishing ponds and their fish and there are long waiting lists to fish in the best.
