Just heard of the death of Sweet bass guitarist, Steve Priest, at age of 72. RIP. All my heroes are beginning to slip away.

Sad news indeed. Sweet were always underrated both as players and as songwriters, most people only being aware of their big hit singles. A bit like Quo really! Talking of Quo, an occasional colleague of mine who's a huge Sweet fan and has spoken with some members at length tells me that Quo were given first refusal on this song, co-written by Pip Williams, but declined. Sweet recorded it (with Steve Priest on lead vocals) on their 1980 LP 'Water's Edge' which Pip produced. Given a more guitar-based approach I can easily imagine Quo doing it but taking the lyrics into consideration I can completely understand their reluctance to record it. It would have done them no favours as a band trying to stay relevant at the turn of the '80s. Nice song though!
