Incidently a guitarist who rarely gets talked about as an influence, namely Arlen Roth, had been name checked by Rossi in an interview many years ago, if my memory serves. Never heard of him, just checked him out. Turns out he's regarded as "king of the telecaster". Who knew? He's a great player, no doubt about that

Never heard of him, just checked him out. Turns out he's regarded as "king of the telecaster". Who knew? He's a great player, no doubt about that I have some Hotlicks VHS tapes up in the loft from the early 90s. I bought them from the guitar shops in Denmark Street, London (Tin Pan Alley) Possibly quite rare these days. One is a Lonnie Mack tutorial and Arlen Roth appears on the tape to chat and jam with Lonnie. The other VHS is Danny Gatton - Telemaster. Arlen seemed like one of the good guys with a genuine love of what he was doing. Though sadly no stranger to terrible tragedy. The Danny Gatton tutorial helped me become a much more free guitarist but arguably a little more sophisticated. Danny had his own tragedy which really shocked me when I found out. The Badfinger story was bad enough but having watched Danny's video many times over, (he became part of my world as such) it was then hard to comprehend later on as to what happened to him.

The Everlys were successful in the '60s but some of their biggest and best known hits ('Bye Bye Love', 'Wake Up Little Susie', 'Bird Dog', 'Claudette' etc, the latter two of which have been recorded by The Spectres and Quo respectively) were from 1957-58. And Quo also recorded the Everly Brother's The price of love

Found a quote from Francis from around 80/81, "Sure I like Whitesnake and all that stuff, but I also like Abba"
More recently he has enthused about Muse

Just remembered that 70's Francis was very highly complementary about Rory Gallagher.
We know that Rory joined the band in the studio for some of the OTL recordings. If they did something together then I guess that would be the holy grail of unreleased stuff

Listen to "Just a Little Bit" from Irish Tour' 74 Many thanks for that, hadn't heard this great album until today, will be listening to this a lot. Hadn't realised Rory and Quo had shared management and toured USA together - just seen this www.guitarfacelift.com/

Hopefully somebody can confirm the photo but I'm sure he was there with them.

Listening to his catalogue a lot recently and those legendary live albums - what a talent! I never knew he jammed with Quo; had known he toured with them though. You can definitely feel some of that Rory magic on some Quo recordings. Incidentally, Rorys new live CD is sterling stuff; Check Shirt Wizard Live '77. A hero to us here in Ireland of course, the first Irish rock star. Not many music fans from this country have not heard at least some of his stuff. In late 60s Lennon and Hendrix were big fans and supporters of Taste.

As I won't be going into the loft anytime soon to find the On The Level gatefold, I had a look online. I'm pretty sure that is Rory G (the man in black) in the photo with John C and Rick.
Talking of cheap vinyl, I used to make my wage packet stretch a long way by buying certain Polydor albums in the late 70s. The ones with the photo negative graphic on the front. My first such purchase had been Rory G's compilation LP in the grey colour. After that I bought the same type of Polydor album by the band Focus.
