From what I've compiled so far, if you count alternate takes and different songs recorded on the same day as one appearance/session, it's probably somewhere around 40. POMM - 1 maybe 2 IITS - 1, maybe 2 but unlikely 3 AYGTOML - 1 DTD - 1 IMC - 1, maybe 2 PP - 1 Caroline - 1 session, at most 2 DD - 1 WYP - 1 session (most likely) SBYBIL - 1 RNR - 1 DJ - 1 SDFM - 1 ORB - 1 AMOB - 1 MT - 2 GDTT - 1 Wanderer - 1 RH - 1 RS - 1 ITAN - 1 Dreamin' - 1 BB - 2 RAOTW - 1 AW1 - 2 LWT - 1 IDMI - 1 JSD - 1 RAOTW - 1 TPAOY - 1 +2 TOTP2 sessions Unless I'm missing anything, that's a minimum of 35 actual appearances. Hardly the 100+ claimed.. 2 performances for Caroline. 1 - the numerous takes shared in this thread, 2 - the missing broadcast featuring Rick and Francis sharing the same mic. I've got another picture from that, but no broadcast date. Possibly the first half of October '73 perhaps? Will have to do more digging Edit, nevermind. Noticed you mentioned a wiped broadcast from 18th Oct performance of Caroline Yeah, I'm pretty certain the missing Caroline is different but we can't be sure without much more to go on. As I put earlier, it seems unlikely that Francis would be on stage in the jumper from the photos taken so they're likely from a rehearsal, but the background doesn't match anything we know of. I've been trying to look through other TOTP to find something similar that I can use to date it, but there's little to go on. Which also means I have little reason to doubt it's Caroline. Edit: that said, background wise it looks more like an earlier TOTP studio. Could it be the other Paper Plane?

I've found it. The 500th edition is wiped but the intro and some clips survive. This is from two weeks before the lost Caroline Look at the wall at about 0:18 here. It's the face behind them in the photos. This is the background for 04/10/73. Before the second/third broadcast of the first session. Great find! definitely a "performance" of Caroline, as there's a picture where Rossi is playing the lead riff

As I just edited above, I wouldn't be surprised if they recorded an insert for this particular show (which would therefore actually fit the photo date of 1/10) but the single didn't climb sufficiently so they didn't use it, then used it later on once they couldn't keep repeating the same session.

They had a couple of free days from 30th Sept until the Hello! Tour continued on the 3rd Oct, so definitely filmed around that time. I do have another shot from this taping. Also, not sure if anyone has noticed this but the performance of She Dont Fool Me looks to be 2 takes combined, as some shots dont line up with others

Also, not sure if anyone has noticed this but the performance of She Dont Fool Me looks to be 2 takes combined, as some shots dont line up with others The other thing though is that the other wall in that intro appears to be the same one that all the other Caroline videos feature. The shiny diagonal slats. I haven't watched the existing clips studiously to see if we get a glimpse of that other wall. I dunno why not; I've got nothing better to do right now. I guess if we find the same picture in any earlier video then it makes the evidence less conclusive again. I can't say I'd noticed that, but then I hadn't paid too much attention to these things. It took someone earlier to point out the similarities in the What You're Proposing videos. It's why I appreciate how much this is a community effort and I'm grateful for any and every bit of help and feedback. There are some recordings out there that exist as studio tapes that have been ripped from the BBC archive. The only vaguely Quo material I've found is the outtake of a link that I've posted, but there's plenty out there. I'm sure some things took plenty of takes. I had the misfortune of finding an outtake of a Shakin Stevens track at the end of the 25th anniversary show.

Caroline 11.10.73 is same as 23.09.73 only with slightly different angles checked crowd on both clips and they are the same It appears to me to be the same crowd, but a different Quo performance. Watch Parfitt at the start, he is definatley leaning on the barrier in one of them, but not the other. I guess there must have been two takes on the same day! It seems to be only up until the 1:58 mark in the B/W footage & the 2:06 mark in the colour footage that the performances are different. From then onwards, they appear to be the exact same.

The May and September 2000 sessions will exist without the interviews / commentary interruptions, as Down Down [Sept. 2000] and Rockin' All Over The World [May 2000] were released as B-Sides for the Jam Side Down CD Single

Lovely. That second one looks like it's from Pictures Of Matchstick Men from the recording we have. The first looks very similar, so perhaps it's from the week before?

I imagine the 100+ appearances on TOTP claimed by the band/management must be an amalgamation of 'all' appearances on the show from 1968 - 2005, including band in studio, video, crowd dancing at chart countdown or dance group performing to song etc. As Hershie has pointed out there are actually only around 40 appearances of the band on stage in the TOTP studio.
