Bowie sadly has been suffering with Cancer for the last 18 Months and somehow it was kept quite.
Rick Parfitt had a sore throat and a doctor sent him to see a specialist to rule out throat cancer which thankfully it was, even though before it was ruled out every tabloid had a heading ''Quo's Rick throat cancer''. the fact it was a nothing story made it worse!!

Rick's problem interrupted an ongoing tour, so it would be difficult to keep quiet. It's not in Rick's nature to keep things quiet anyway.
I thought he had vocal chord nodules? Not cancerous fortunately.

Colm ... Don't know what you're trying to say but imo any publicity in getting the general public to be aware of their health is paramount. My family has a history of heart issues and it was Ricks heart attacks that inspired me to get my heart checked out.

I would expect that David Bowie's mb equivalent to this (I assume he has one, I've not bothered to look) would provide an insight into his health through official channels. I am sure his wish to keep it quiet was respected, but I would think that dedicated fans on such a site would still would have been provided with some information about his welfare

I've been on a couple of official forums (not Bowie) and the artist's health is never discussed by their representatives unless there has already been some public event (like Dave Grohl breaking his leg) or official news announcement. It would be daft: fans are not family (whatever the advertising says) and there's no such thing as a MB that press members can't see. It would leak. I gathered there were "rumours" about David Bowie going back over 10 years, but they were all based on gossip, changes of schedule, etc., ie mostly had no meaningful substance.

My family has a history of heart issues and it was Ricks heart attacks that inspired me to get my heart checked out. A couple of points. If you want to keep things private it's possible, with Bowie only Family and a couple of people close to him knew. The thing with Rick and the Throat Cancer ''scare'' was, it would have been time enough to release a statement when they knew what was wrong, but Porter sought publicity and got it, he was on TV one day saying he hoped Rick would be ok and the next day saying he was, anyway it didn't sit well with me then and now. The Heart attack was different as it happened and it is fair enough to put it out and yeah it does make people think of their own health. Hope the heart is ok Gaz, Family history here also quofr

Glad that the Quo management are being called into question.
Walker dying should have heralded a new tact from Quo. HT, Matt joining, Bob returning, etc, brought freshness but behind the scenes it was the usual hangers-on - guys like Porter who were just as responsible for the gimmicks and stunts. Quo should have got shot of the lot of them. But as we all know, business was never their strong point.
Porter is not one to shun publicity. A couple of years ago, a story which had nothing to do with the band. It was an advert from a council saying "Status Quo fans need not apply". Porter actually took the time and effort writing a response, which no doubt Francis and Rick weren't consulted on. When the official MB shut, that made the news too. Sad, attention-seeking, pathetic.
If there was anything that I would change about Quo, it would be the management. You can't make the band write songs they don't want to write, and if they don't want any more FF, so be it. But it would mean the end of officially-endorsed contempt for the FF, and pish like Bula Quo and Accept No Substitute.
It's too late. The damage is irreparable, and the band are on their last legs.
