Interesting that the albums recommended are listed as being released on the Mercury label. Not sure what that's all about. Even the American releases - such as they were - weren't on Mercury I don't think. Researchers, eh?

I would have added Whatever You Want and Rock Til You Drop to make it up to ten (albums). Obviously his preferences (and he certainly knows his Quo) but not a bad selection. I would definitely have WYW in there.

A couple of releases were on the mercury label at the time in America. Both of which were self titled albums, one being Blue For You and the other being a compilation of In The Army Now and Ain't Complaining. The Mercury label is tagged onto all the Quo Deluxe Editions

Yep, read this earlier, it sits nicely alongside the 'polls' here too [even tho' many of us probably won't agree entirely with it! ] G

Really interesting read and good choices by the author! But I do agree with I Aint Complaining that WYW really deserves to be included too. In my book WYW is lots better and stronger than NTL.

Yeah he knows his Quo. Mostly I agree with him. He's not wrong about Hello, although fan polls suggest Piledriver comes top. Prefer Hello myself
Did Quo "bottle it" with tpaoy? I was certainly very disappointed with it after HT. He's bang on to point out that 3 HT songs were still in the set when they toured it.

I know it’s all about opinion but given Dave Ling’s leaning’s, I find it incredible that RAOTW is there but Whatever You Want isn’t.
And he incorrectly links Bob Young with Under the Influence.
And he can’t seem to get that In the Army Now and Burning Bridges are hugely popular.

I think most of my older Quo albums and 8-tracks, lol, were on the Capitol Records label.

And he can’t seem to get that In the Army Now and Burning Bridges are hugely popular. I usually agree with him. I also prefer raotw to WYW as I think overall it has more better songs, if not sound. I'm not sure he denies the popularity of MT and similar. He just - like Alan, thinks they were very wrong for Quo

I never really read too much into the choices because these are subjective anyway. But all those considered to be "classics", or at least their best, I suppose are there. I personally would have had Dog Of Two Head and Rock 'til You Drop in there but each to their own. Presumably this is a marketing ploy as much as anything else because when you "view deal" it takes you to Amazon. The article is not for the sake of it being an article. Are these things ever?

I wonder if Whatever You Want was omitted because it was on the Riva label? Given that all of these deals relate to Mercury. Just the cynic in me I guess

Yeah Classic Rock write a lot of articles where they can provide links to Amazon, so if you click on the link and make a purchase, then Classic Rock will get a bit of a cash for sending the buyer Amazon’s way. When they though make mistakes like saying Bob Young started working with them again on the Under the Influence album, it just puts me off, making me take whatever else they say with pinch of salt.

And he can’t seem to get that In the Army Now and Burning Bridges are hugely popular. I think he understands entirely they were 'popular'. However he is right that popular doesn't mean good or musically interesting. He refers to them as musically middle of the road. Which I think is a much more generous review than most people would have of them. They are popular songs with a certain type of person. Middle of the road is being generous to them.

Indeed what you say.
This article is not aimed at us at all.
I can not imagine anyone who has liked Quo as long as most on here, changing their minds about the songs or albums now.
Would I have chosen all the albums well no.
I think Heavy Traffic is the most over rated album in the medias mind. Probably as it marked a up turn for material.
