Maybe there was a thread about this already... I have always wondered why the track, since it was the biggest hit off the 75 album was not performed live until late 77 as bootlegs suggest. I remember reading John could not get the drumming right? I have heard the same criticism about The post Rich drummers as well.

It was in the set for a very brief period in '75. They played it at the Madrid gig that was filmed but it was cut from the Broadcast. Not heard about Coghlan not getting the drumming for it right before, but I know they had trouble getting it to work live at the time

Are any versions from 75 existing on boots? Does the full Madrid exist at least on audio?

Not on any boots that are in circulation from that time, no.. sadly And the madrid gig wont exist in full, just the broadcast masters but apparently they destroyed those tapes after the broadcast in 2000, as the tapes were in bad condition already due to poor archiving from RTVE

Funny what you come across sometimes, still up watching some Quo vids on youtube, then see another Madrid version come up, but this one is over the 59 mins that most are and I thought hmmm, I wonder, does it have that Down Down intro on, that some of us have mentioned before. I have a dvd with it on and there was an old video of it on youtube years ago, but then it vanished and some were curious about it being played live in 1975, I said on the old board and maybe this one about the footage, but I'm sure some still didn't believe it. Anyway, it had vanished and all versions I could find didn't have it on. As Quoincidence says it was played and finally the version of the gig where Rossi introduces it is back up, with a bit of a guitar intro tease, but then straight into Big Fat Mama. This is on the dvd version I have. Hope this proves to fans who are curious about this fact that Down Down was indeed played live in 1975, well, at least attempted, for all I know maybe there was some kind of power cut during it and that's why it got edited out of the footage. It's at around 19:50

It was broadcasted just once in 2000. - The tapes still exits somewhere on RTVE vaults. I have a friend working on RTVE, I asked him if he can get access to the archive departament to see if I can get some information, but sadly he doesn't even know where the department is. He doesn't go too much to the studios after all.

Either Quo were the most laid back, stupidest band going
Or
Something else more sinister is going on.
I find it absolutely baffling that the Final Fling is released, all of Rossi's mistakes at the gig touched up, whilst no care giving to the other members and that "nothing" is found from the 70s or 80s during their pomp.
Rick was the only one who never messed up in Dublin and he was hungover and emotionally in a tangle, giving the situation, so I find it interesting...
Then again, I'm a fucking mess so I shouldn't be so judgmental

Really they should have filmed a gig from the Rockin' tour as that probably would have been the best time to film one of their live shows, anything prior to that would be pointless due to how short the sets were from '70 to '76
