Now here’s the thing.
Planet Rock are playing the first single , Backbone.
Ken Bruce played Liberty Lane again today.
I think Liberty Lane will be the second single, with Radio 2 playlisting it , with perhaps a couple of weeks on the b- list first in August before it gets A playlisted as we move closer to the album’s release and indeed the Hyde Park gig.
So, despite my initial puzzlement about Backbone being the first single, actually things could pan out very nicely.
Thoughts?

Liberty Lane will be the 2nd single, hence why it is being sold as such on the Backbone Store, like the Backbone Vinyl Single

And Quo (taking them right back to The Spectres) never got "instant stardom" with their first single, so they would be very at home with the idea of trailing one single first and then going with a better one. Also being a "name" already, it won't kill them if a single sinks without trace. (IIRR Francis said, you are only as good as your last album, which is true, but, for an established artist, they can get away with some failed releases in a way that an unknown band may not be able to. I'm just hanging around waiting for the album, anyway

Very at home i think! Those prophetic early titles, I Who Have Nothing, We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet, Almost But Not Quite There!
Just imagine if Francis had never went to the toilet, we'd have had this 'orrible little song as a single, then that'd probably have been our lot! Consigned to obscurity, and we'd have had to find something else to argue about.

Heard Liberty Lane on Ken Bruce's show yesterday and impression was that it wasn't a bad song but something was missing, I kept waiting for it move up a gear, to be it lacked a bit enthusiasm/ a bit more effort/slightly heavier (and I mean slightly). There was just somwthing missing, which is a shame.

I like all their early stuff, this one included, but I get your point.

From memory Danny Baker played the 'Gentleman Joe...' track when interviewing Francis on his radio show some time ago. Baker seemed quite surprised that Rossi was very dismissive of this particular track. I think Baker was suggesting a common link with such luminaries as The Kinks, but Rossi was having none of it and thought it was indeed 'orrible.

That was a great interview and wish it was online somewhere to listen again. Baker had listed Quo songs from 1 to 20 and asked FR to pick a number and then chat about that song...

So I saw that Liberty Lane was available today, I was just going to wait for the album, but have ended up downloading the track and got it on the hifi. I think it's great, especially in terms of a single too. I do think it's a shame we don't get proper cd/vinyl releases with exclusive b sides etc. I suppose they just were not selling enough and just gave up in the end, better to just concentrate on the albums, hey ho. I also listened to the clip of I Wanna Run Away With You on Quo's twitter and although only a snippet, thought it sounded great, pure Quo to me there, hope the song is a good one. Not sure if the link will take you to it, if not, oh well.
I Wanna Run Away With You - Clip
Roll on September, really looking forward to the album now.

Xland So nice that someone still has and uses a hifi! I agree with you about I Wanna Run Away With You, it's a great song.

On Dutch site Bol.com I have heard snippets of all songs on the album....and of course 30 second snippets are hard to get a good impression....but from what I have heard ... after hearing Backbone I was a bit worried cos I really don;t like that track much...but after hearing snippets of the others... well, as said it's hard to judge by such short fragments...but it sounds to me like a combination of things like there were on HT, QPQ and UTI but better produced. And if that's how this album turns out to be then I could actually end up enjoying the cd quite a bit which is quite surprising especially since Rick isn't there

Am I the only one who can't get liberty lane out of his head?
Wierd as the song doesn't really have much melody and doesn't seem to go anywhere, yet surprisingly catchy and certainly has something about it
