A friend emailed this review of the Quo/LS gig, this is the section on Quo. Some very interesting and contentious points about Quo and a couple about English gig goers that made me chuckle.
Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd’s last ever gig in the UK was an up and down affair.
Not the music, which was glorious, but the audience.
The crowd comprised predominantly late middle-aged men wearing faded tour t-shirts as badges of honour. Many were intent on necking as many plastic pints of lager as possible.
And with late middle-aged bladders too, there was a constant procession between seat, bar and loo.
Through pretty much every song Skynyrd and special guests Status Quo played.
To their credit, both bands – despite being even older than their fans – managed to stay the course and keep their legs crossed.
A re-invigorated Quo, headliners in the unfamiliar role of support band, played their punchy three-chord trick.
Staples such as Caroline, Mystery Song and Whatever You Want seem to have a new lease of life with the new line-up. And newcomer Cut Me Some Slack recalled the band’s early pile driving glory days.
Rick Parfitt replacement Richie Malone was a revelation, suggesting that what was once inconceivable might one day not be so.
When Francis Rossi finally hangs up his waistcoat, Quo could carry on with none of the original members.

They could carry on but it would be even more of a tribute act with no original members.Dr Feelgood remain a draw on the circuit with no original members but it’s a pale imitation of what once was Cheers
