All gone a bit quiet on here, so bang on side 2 and let's have a bit of rock n' roll shall we?
A classic version of Roll Over Lay Down to kick off. Love the quiet bit before it kicks back in, hopefully a bit like this thread!

I played side 3 yesterday. Roll Over Lay Down, straight in to Big Fat Mama, Caroline, drum solo, Bye Bye Johnny.....a treat for the ears.

I listened to the album last Thursday. Not sure what to add though...

Caroline is the big disappointment for me on this album. Not sure if it was recorded on the same night as the majority, but just sounds fuzzy and doesn't do it for me.

The greatest Quo album, the greatest Live album! ... Caroline sounds even more shitty on the Hello! album (the worst produced Quo song, but a great song).

Slightly annoyed when I played this today, as yet another "top 50 rock albums of all time" list is doing the rounds and there's no Quo. There's live albums in there that I own, and none of them a patch on this.
I kind of get why Francis hates it. There's loads of mistakes. Perhaps less so for Francis, but Rick and Alan's vocals are very rough. During my Quo gigging years, Rick had good and bad nights with his voice - it varied a bit.
I was going to post about Rick's poor vocals during BFM - then saw somebody else post that this is probably the best version there is. And yes, it probably is. So no, the mistakes don't matter. Wonder what we'd think of this album if Francis had been allowed to produce it? I love Lizzy's Live and Dangerous, even though it's produced so much it's a studio album....
Caroline, yes, surpassed imo by the "charlie" version, but this is still great. Just love the roar of the Quo army as Rick gets going.
For motorway driving, there can be no better companion for the car than this. 4500x stunning. My own highlight is RB - ridiculously enjoyable.
Rain - sometimes so rough I don't like it - so different from the classy single. Same with ITABW, yet the live power is just incredible if you are in the mood for it.
Overall, for me the best live album there is, and possibly the best album full stop. What else is more enjoyable?
1 hour 35 mins - was that the typical gig length then, or was this not the full show?

I also wondered which tracks were missing and if the recordings still exist. I enjoyed listening to it again and obviously the songs are a lot faster than on the reunion live recordings I tend to listen to more these days. I loved Juniors played a bit faster but somehow Backwater and JTM seemed a bit rushed and the swing and bounce was not so apparent. ITABW was fabulous and this is one I tend to skip on the later shows. I stopped reviewing after that and just enjoyed it. All pretty amazing, especially 4500x!

I also wondered which tracks were missing and if the recordings still exist. Acording to quogigography.net they used to play Mad About the Boy during the Blue For You tour which these gigs were a part of. Some nights they also played Ring of a Change. In My Chair and Big Fat Mama was not in the main setlist so maybe they played these songs only during these gigs.

Before it finally gets to midnight, I must add that for years I neglected LIVE because I loved Live at the NEC so much. But now when I hear LIVE, I think, "That is what Quo should really sound like." Never mind the occasional mistake, never mind the distinctive vinyl crack half way through 4500 Times.
Their only mistake really was not putting Gerdundula on it - I would have bought it a lot sooner if so.

I'm not sure Gerdundula would have been such a great live song at the time, being low key as it is. They did play it a couple of times, but even the EP version was recorded at a rehearsal. It wasn't until the 2000 that they turned it into a bit of a crowd-pleaser.

I thought these three gigs were done seperately from the tour? If so did they play a shorter set to make sure it would fit on four sides?

The greatest live album, by the greatest rock band. Not a weak track anywhere. I taped the jig just to play it in it's own right.
