I've just recently purchased the 2CD / DVD set from Amazon (yes i know, time for a public shaming?), However I'd like to point out that I do not like the Aquostic albums because I think they could have been pulled off so much better and much more seriously than just becoming another gimmick for Quo...
The whole stripped bare bullshit when in fact most of the songs have more instruments on them than the original versions do.
An Acoustic album should just be guitars, drums and some piano... absolutely no need for strings, accordion (especially) and everything else they slung onto the tracks.
A missed opportunity to do something great with their older tracks IMO and I think seeing as Rossi didn't want to do a new album with the original line-up, then they should have done the acoustic album.
See what Kiss did with their Unplugged performance for example, crossing over the old line-up and the new line-up.

Absolutely agree, such a shame it wasn't done properly but to do a proper acoustic show takes a hell of a lot of preparation, hard work and above all rehearsal if arrangements have to be altered. None of which Francis would have been prepared to do.

It's no gimmick." - Classic Rock Well it is a gimmick when they have to go nude for the album cover and call it Aquostic instead of just going with something simple, Status Quo; Unplugged Would have been great if they would have done some really obscure tracks, for example (yes, I'm going to mention Kiss again), Kiss doing "A World Without Heroes" from the Elder album which is a big no-no to some fans and dare I say a few bands members. Who Am I would have been great for a proper acoustic album done with the original members (including Andy Bown)

Was this the first time that you'd seen this gig/heard these albums then?
Otherwise, I'm a bit confused why you bought them. 100% with you on your view of them btw.

Not bought either of the studio albums, just the Roundhouse gig

Thought 4/5 songs could have been cut from the first album. AIBN was a good proper single devoid of the usual silliness.
Second album, don't think ROLD worked at all. The intro to LOTHR sounds like it was a leftover from King Of The Doghouse. The chorus is a great example of the backing singers being garbage.

The whole though, unlike Aquostic, was a triumph. Kiss' unplugged is one of the best albums they've done, opening with "Coming Home" you knew it was going to be a good 'un!
