...simple, a band playing as one, heavy bass and solid drums, no egos dominating (yet), the sound was developing. In an era moving towards 'progressive' (!?) Quo took things down the straight road instead of the mystery tour, several years ahead of punk and I am sure for this reason sounded odd and out of kilter.
...and interestingly John Schroeder probably had a lot to do with the overall development of the sound (and Pat Barlow for funding) but he/they are never really given the credit.
