In the original Sport Aid event in 1986, Tears For Fears re-recorded 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' as 'Everybody Wants to Run the World'. For the second event, in 1988, Quo were asked to re-record 'Rocking All Over The World' as the events anthem in keeping with the Tears For Fears number two years previously. Sport Aid ceased organising high profile events after 1988 which is why no further charity singles were released after Quo. The difference though is TFF really had to, as they bailed out of Live Aid at the last minute and Bob Geldof was furious. "Run the World" also had a video, but it didn't show anything from the band: That is the cheesiest music video I've seen to this day...

The 12” remix was very worrying at the time, a real wtf!! I thought the single was clinical and clean. Despite good promo it didn’t sell well. By the time it came out the band had trashed it’s product buying fan base Then there was the sports aid gig fiasco - anyone go?

I've only just discovered that Quo were to play the Sports Aid gig but had to cancel due to their gear not arriving on time... not a clue how true that is. They also played a short set on the 25th November without Andy Bown due to his illness

They also played a short set on the 25th November without Andy Bown due to his illness It was a PR disaster. It was well promoted and presumably back then there'd have been plenty there just for Quo. Quo were there in time for the gig but refused to play. "We're here but our gear isn't We're very sorry" - was the quote. Quo got a bad time. I remember some of the quotes from the papers "Whose ever heard of Quo wearing anything other than dirty jeans? A joke they are saying they can't play without their stage clothes" Francis also said they showed the video instead, which he thought was better! Not sure I'd have agreed with that if I'd made the effort to go. Wish they'd played. Using other peoples guitars and set up, wearing whatever they were wearing....it would have been different, and it wouldn't have been a PR disaster

Sports Aid seems like a complete shit show compared to Live Aid

This is what we had in Scotland in 1986:
My mother is actually on the bill here (on Stage 3) doing puppet shows. How very Spinal Tap!
