Thanks for sharing.. I think. Sadly I lasted just over a minute.
But to respond to your OP. I remember as a teenager, hearing Francis say how much he loved Jeff Lynne in interview. I'm sure you know this too, that Lynne was the song writer that Francis wished he could be. So this makes sense. If only he had Jeff's song writing abilities. But that shows how hard it is to write great songs.

It's from the Mitchell / Coe Mysteries album released in 1980... a concept War Of The Worlds album called 'Exiled'.
Narrated by Robert Powell "And whatever should happen both on earth and in the skies tonight... will be more clearly understood"
Quite like the track myself! got the LP
Ships In The Night Bass – Andy Pask Drums [Kit] – Paul Thompson Guitar – Ray Russell Piano – Chris Parren Synthesizer – Dave Lawson Vocals – Bernie Frost, Francis Rossi

The coke sessions... it sounds just like the majority of Frossi-Rost efforts from 80 and onwards... and a poor mans ELO, nope, not for me. But thanks for the link.

Different style but they both have a considerable number. I think Francis has let the constant criticism of Quo, really since the first failure after POMM, get to him and there is more than an element of truth in that "insecure little show-off" phrase. Quo are one of the most successful bands of all time, and Francis wrote most of the songs.

I even enjoyed much of his 2nd solo album. Which are not like Jeff either.

I am sure I remember Alan saying they would love to write like ELO but it would end up sounding like Quo ...I think ......it was ages ago I’m glad classic Quo never did. I don’t like ELO. Francis has written some great great songs but he hasn’t written a great song in such a long time. He’s spent more time writing utter pish than he did writing what created the cash cow he keeps milking.

ELO are one of those bands to me that I was never really into - but then when you hear them , you end up knowing loads of their songs
