Do you think there may have been a period where JC had a few subsequent Quo drummers photos pinned on his dartboard? I seem to remember a newspaper article with the headline Status Woe. I think it was in the Telegraph, about how JC was unhappy about not being involved in Live Aid. Then there's the loss of income etc etc.
Jeff Rich might have done better out of it all than JC did...
Then there's acceptance and at least there was the glory of the reunion.
Being in a successful band and not having a Roller and a holiday home in the Bahamas seems a bit like having lost a winning lottery ticket.

Leaving aside the dart board, guys who lose a job with a successful band have to learn philosophy fast. Spud at least quit (whether he was happy about that the following morning, and whether or not that's accepted, he did quit) and that might help with the philosophy. A bit. I did it my way (at least for a few minutes) etc.
BUT IIUR, he did get something out of the whole suing buisiness. Francis certainly said in an old interview that they had to pay Spud more because Alan sued them. I think Alan was the loser out of that, although I don't have details.
I'm not sure what his relationship with the back catalogue is. That makes a lot of difference how comfortably an ex-member can live.
PS Being grouchy about your successors in a band is a really bad look. I don't think Spud has ever done that.

I'm sure, aside from the fact I do believe Spud still enjoys it, there is a reason that he still tours at 70.

Must have been strange at times for him such as Milton Keynes and especially something on the scale of Live Aid.
Today bands and artists seem more able to go into hibernation for periods of time without appearing to compromise their long term careers. It can even seem to make them more attractive when they do reappear with a tour or a new album.
I'm sure Quo taking a break in the late 70s and early 80s would have helped Spud. Though back then I expect the mentality was that if they stopped they would soon be forgotten and the money would stop flowing in (not just for the band but for others associated with them!)
Though Rick probably needed the routines and commitment of being in a top touring and recording band at that vulnerable time for him otherwise who knows what would have become of him. Bob Young's departure from the band was a significant loss to some of the individuals in the band in my view and with drugs being commonplace, the status quo couldn't be maintained.
JC was the one in the band who preferred small hotels, smaller venues and valued his time at his home on the Isle Of Man.
He has kept busy in the industry though and being on a different gig circuit to Quo possibly suits his personality. Still have great memories of seeing JC and Diesel in the mid 80s at The Royal pub in Guildford (restaurant now I think) and at the King's Head in Fulham (now a restaurant I think!) Rick and Bob turned up for a tune up for that one. Just memories though as no photographic evidence as no camera phones then...well no mobile phones either.
I believe JC has met with Matt Letley in the past when Quo have been playing in a town near him. Doubt he would have any malicious thoughts about any of his replacements.

I'm sure all ex members of SQ have the same picture on their dartboard, and it's no drummer.

Never struck me that JC has been bitter towards his departure from Quo, more like 'just the way things panned out overall' and although the Reunion Tours brought things 'full circle' for 3 out of 4 of the Frantics, looking at what JCQ deliver compared to FRQ these days, probably makes Spud feel even better about the scheme of things today

Some kind of recognition for the part they played personally in making Quo the tour de force they were. The atmosphere was electric at the gigs I went to, something akin to the 70s and early 80s gigs. When the the reunion plans were in their infancy there were concerns about whether the old audience would still be there and enough tickets would be sold to make it all viable. They must have been shocked, especially Francis, when sales rocketed. Where Alan had really got the bug again and wanted more after the reunions I imagine JC found it the easiest to go back to the usual day job. For Francis perhaps it was a bit of closure with Alan and helping him financially having had hard times in the past when he no longer had the safety net of being in a major band.
