Hi All, A nice tribute article to Eddie.
Article courtesy of:-teamrock.com/classic-rock
Former Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke dies at the age of 67 after battle with pneumonia The news was confirmed on Motorhead's Facebook page. A statement reads: "We are devastated to pass on the news we only just heard ourselves earlier tonight – Edward Allan Clarke, or as we all know and love him Fast Eddie Clarke – passed away peacefully yesterday."
Ted Carroll, who formed Chiswick Records, made the sad announcement via his Facebook page, having heard from Doug Smith that Fast Eddie passed peacefully in hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia. "Fast Eddie... keep roaring, rockin’ and rollin' up there as goddamit man, your Motörfamily would expect nothing less!", "RIP Fast Eddie Clarke – 5th October 1950 - 10th January 2018."
Clarke was introduced to Lemmy by drummer Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor in the mid-70s and he joined Motorhead soon afterwards in 1976. He played on Motorhead’s self-titled 1977 debut album and also played on 1979’s Overkill and Bomber, 1980’s Ace Of Spades and 1982’s Iron Fist.
The guitarist left Motorhead while on tour in the US with the band following the release of Iron Fist, reportedly unhappy with how that album turned out, and went on to form Fastway with former UFO bassist Pete Way. Fastway released their self-titled debut album in 1983, and went on to release a further six studio albums – including the 2011 comeback album Dog Eat Dog.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's all the more incredible that Motorhead became the sensation we fans know them for when you think of the rough beginnings of the band, this little extract below from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mot%C3%B6rhead of what could have easily never have been the band we fans followed...
By April 1977, living in squats and with little recognition, Taylor and Clarke decided to quit the band, and after some debate, they agreed to do a farewell show at the Marquee Club in London. Lemmy had become acquainted with Ted Carroll from Chiswick Records and asked him to bring a mobile studio to the show to record it for posterity. Carroll was unable to get the mobile unit to the Marquee Club, but showed up backstage after the engagement and offered them two days at Escape Studios with producer Speedy Keen to record a single.
The band took the chance, and instead of recording a single they laid down 11 unfinished tracks. Carroll gave them a few more days at Olympic Studios to finish the vocals and the band completed 13 tracks for release as an album. Chiswick issued the single "Motorhead" in June, followed by the album Motörhead in August, which spent one week in the UK Albums Chart at number 43. The band toured the UK supporting Hawkwind in June, then from late July they commenced the "Beyond the Threshold of Pain" tour with The Count Bishops.
In August, Tony Secunda took over the management of the band, and their cohesiveness became so unstable that by March 1978, Clarke and Taylor had formed and were performing as The Muggers with Speedy Keen and Billy Rath. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I for one am so glad that the band especially Eddie stuck through the rough patch to give us the music we know and love I will always regret not seeing any line up of Motorhead live at a gig......
RIP Eddie many thanks for your part in one of my favourite bands......
Geoff.

Now it's time to listen some Motorhead and, specially, a lot of Fastway. That band is so underrated! Love it to death!

Sad news. I remember missing Motörhead at Reading '79 as we only arrived while they were on stage. However, I subsequently saw the classic line-up at Malvern Winter Gardens where they were supported by Saxon. A memorable evening!
