An afternoon to myself, I browsed the pages of this site and happened across a link for LNOTE gig. I've never seen it so decided to give it a look. Almost immediately I was dismayed. During the viewing, I went for a cigarette, made a cup of tea and went for a pee, all without hitting the pause button. This is what has become of my band. I gave up on Quo Lite after seeing them in Aberdeen in 2008, mainly due to the setlist. I have never seen them again, despite their appearance in my home town of Inverness twice since. I digress...
LNOTE was awful, I can only assume Richie is a good guitarist because all I could hear was Rossi's guitar and some really dodgy vocals from everyone.... not much change to the setlist either.
Then, onto Dublin. The volume went up, no fags, no tea, no peeing... total class. This is how its done. North & South, Chalk & Cheese, whatever way it's put. Francis played the best in years, John's familiar rolling style and the continual tick tick tick of the cymbals, Alan's thumping bass, Rick with his head down getting on with it as only Rick does..... Four guys, a lot of volume and some great songs.
I was lucky to see FF in Glasgow in 2014. I'm so glad I went, it's the last time I saw them and the last time I will ever see them. What a great way to end it all!!!

I don't think I actually could watch LNOTE.
😲
Anyway on this subject, I recently met a fellow amateur musician who mentioned he had recently seen Quo. In my head I was saying ,"That wasn't Quo, I've seen the FF - now that's Quo".
But I restrained myself and we had a genial conversation over a shared interest. I'll vent my spleen on the forum....

I did actually receive it last week as a prezzie but won't be bothered to watch it, but I'd better take off the plastic wrapper to make it look like I have.

After I entirely failed to go and see them in December due to a carefully balanced operation of fate, I thought, "Well, if I think I have missed them, I can always get the LNOTE DVD." And was checking it out, where somewhere along the line there was a clip and there was Francis slurring his words again.
It's not the best thing on stage, but on a video it's captured, which is worse. So at that point I backed off.

thepiledrivergorilla most if not all of us on here would totally agree. I enjoyed CQ until Mat left. When I went to the NEC in 2013 it was poor - you could barely hear the new drummer, and half the set was boring and included songs I don't like. Of course, now there's no Rick, a very low in the mix replacement, Francis non-tele guitar sound, dodgy vocals and a boring set. The other Quo MB tends to have fans more loyal to what the band are doing now, and even they are mostly fed up.

I've said this before but it bears repeating. I only discovered Quo in 2014. To me there was no FF, Quo Lite, etc. I didn't know the difference.
The current lineup is embarrassingly bad. Quo Lite was actually pretty good, maybe even very good at times.
But the FF was incredible. Easily one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. What Rossi did to the band should have been illegal. Edwards is an average base player, Bown is an average keyboardist and no drummer comes close to Coghlan.
That's the appraisal of someone who didn't know anything about them 3 years ago.

I wouldn't say Bown is average... he is an incredible keyboardist, just over the years he's got a little too loud in the mix and that won't be down to him at all
He did some great piano work on Going Down Town Tonight (On the re-recorded version of the track that is), but it's drowned out by the synths

He is incredibly talented - on piano, keyboard, harmonica etc. A great musician, songwriter and man! Definitely too loud in the mix, yes, but not his fault at all. Too much synthies on albums in the 80s/90s but if Rick and Francis hadn't given their approval it wouldn't have happened. He himself backed out of the reunion (Francis wanted him there) saying no one wanted to hear keyboards there. His latest solo album is cool as well.

It was great just having guitars and no plinky plonk piano or awful keyboards. I didnt miss him at all.
