I'm probably being very cynical here but...
In light of the whole "my guitar must be louder than Richie's" thing in relation to gigs since last year, do you think Francis doesn't mention Rick because he wants the audience to be thinking about him and not someone else?
I mean, he has a big ego and he has done more flounces than Colin..

Exactly, Tony, as I said above that tribute moment makes a crowd inclusive. This stuff Francis talks about ‘we don’t want to bring the crowd down etc is just an excuse for not wanting to show emotion to a person he’s well n truly taken for granted as a business partner for way too long imo. If you don’t want to bring the crowd down then why play In The Army Now or(yawn) The Oriental? Personally I like to see in the middle of the show a big pic of Rick pop up behind them and have Rossi tell a short story about Rick, one which we haven't heard before with a bit of humour in it. Then play Living On An Island in full & then Big Fat Mama with Richie on vocals on both songs. Then they can go back to the same ol' set again. It would be interesting to know what the other 4 think. Richie and Leon will not rock the boat with this but Andy and Rhino must have talked to Francis about this and given their thoughts.

The logic that because they're older and have been in the band longer Andy and Rhino will not rock the boat is flawed. They're told what to do and they do it. Rhino acts all hard but he is a complete pushover.

With the exception of the Army album, I've heard a lot of bass lines from Rhino, that are the same and I'm not talking 8 notes or 1/4 notes. The bass line from Looking Out For Caroline, GDFTFT, Address Book, Sail Away etc can be subbed into so many of the shite since 1986
Francis said in an interview that he kept telling Alan in the 70s and 80s to play bass like on The Eagles tracks and Alan basically told him to Fuck Off. The only time he played bass the way Francis told him to was for MT and that was because he thought it was for his solo album
In short, Rhino does what Francis tells him to do. Andrew won't say anything if he didn't say anything back in the 80s between Rick, Francis and Alan Leon? The Francis Rossi solo drummer? Say something? Based on his statement after Rick's death and that interview for Oz tv, I don't think Richie really gives a fuck

It's funny we don't hear anything from Andy at all, Rhino had his tourlogs where you would get his take on things on Quo. Would really like to see Andy in interviews, the only time I've seen Andy be himself was on the Party Ain't Over Yet dvd. If Rhino & Andy did say something to Francis like "c mon Francis lets do something for Rick on the show", his reply would be what he said on the radio interview. Which I think he might feel betrayed by Rick wanting to get back to the heavy rock with Al & John & did after Aquostic 2.

I agree, rock, I’ve never heard Andy in an interview where he talks about his times and input with a band he’s been in since the 70’s.... it’s a shame as I bet he has a few tales to tell.

It might still be on youtube - there is "a day in the life" of Quo doc where he has his segment. All I remember is how he came up with both WYW and BB.

Its not all bad. I was interested to learn that the Australian fans don't go for ITAN.
But yes, the lack of tribute to Rick at the gig is poor. And it doesn't need to be at the start either Francis. Prior to one if his numbers would be perfect.
Listening to the interview, and other recent ones from him, it is clear to me that Francis can't handle his emotions and suppresses them. He clearly still has a strong emotional reaction to Rick - I'm not saying I know that that is - but whatever it is, he can't handle it. So its easier to forget about him.
I did smile and roll my eyes when he said,"there's not many of those" -about fans who won't go now that Rick isn't playing any more. But he's got to think like that to keep on playing live.
I totally believe the jokey stuff about hearing Rick's voice, not dying on a show day and substitutes for them both on stage. Because for them it was/is also a job.
But what he's forgotten is the great emotional attachment to the band members from the fans. Rick's passing is a major line-up change. I know we talk about other bands whose line-ups have changed. But as the band became known for F&R for 30+ years, to lose one of those two is massive. No disrespect to Matt Letley, but his leaving and Leon arriving is not in the same league.

I don't think he's that bad, like when they recorded QPQ he went & wrote his songs & let others write theirs. When I listen to current Quo Rick's songs, they don't have country sound in them like Francis's, so he wasn't really telling Rick what Quo should sound like. I don't think the Quo brand would've lasted so long if that was going on.

I don't think the Quo brand would've lasted so long if that was going on. Well, in issues of FTMO, you can see he's not very complimentary about a lot of Rick's or Rhino's songs on a lot of albums. I don't think he was telling him what to write but, it was almost like Rick had a massive wake up call after 2013, musically. You can see the "showbiz, toeing the brand line" stance Rick adapted when promoting Aquostic. He didn't want that album. If he did want it, I'm sure he imagined it to be more along the lines of how Softer Ride turned out
