Zakk Wylde has for some time toured doing covers of Black Sabbath. Under the banner Zakk Sabbath.
Obviously Zakk never played a note on a Sabbath album. But he pulls reasonable crowds.
Maybe in the future Rhino could tour as a Quo cover band playing songs never played by the classic line up. Let's face it there are plenty. Would I go, well no. As I don't like his voice but maybe others would.

He does Bad News and Lucinda with his own band.
As for doing songs that the classic lineup recorded, he really shouldn't milk someone else's work for himself any more than he does already.
By all means murder your own songs, but not the likes of PP - another one he "sings".

Has he been a front man enough? I think fans, even casuals, still connect with Francis as much as the music, and as long the sound is okay for them, they keep going.
And of course they appreciate Rhino and what he brings because he is a big part of the Quo show. But does he have a big enough following to keep the Quo brand on the road? I have no idea. And I'm talking about appeal rather than pure talent.
If/when Francis retires, would the brand consider finding a replacement? And would they also have to fill his front man role too? This is what I think would determine the longevity of the brand known as Status Quo. Especially as Rhino is now over 60.

There is nothing wrong at all with Rhino as a song-writer within Quo, but his vocals and solo music are not to my taste. But he could certainly play his part in encouraging a band effort in the here and now in terms of all members contributing to something new to add to the mix. Who knows how he and the other members, including Francis as front man, might click with Ritchie and help bring out the best in him in terms of song-writing and song structure?
All this can happen within the time Francis and the older members retire. There doesn't have to be a safety first precise brand, its all simply a state of mind about simply deciding to put a fresh stamp on things. None of this has been tried, so who knows what it might yield. In context of the topic, I would have thought Rhino would up for a late challenge.
It would go one better than him touring as a Quo covers band - especially, as no offence to him, I can't see it working with his singing. I think the sum of all the current parts is better than any of that provided its used properly and completely differently and far more expansively than LNOTE.

Personally I think Rhino would prefer to concentrate on Rhino's Revenge if Francis decided to retire. I enjoyed his set at the last convention and although he hasn't got a brilliant voice, he can carry off the songs. I preferred his version of Two Way Traffic.
For the purpose of the thread, if he did want to continue as a 'Quo' band, he would definitely have another singer/guitarist to take the place of Francis and presumably Richie would sing too, so Rhino could be the frontman in terms of the speel in between the songs, but not necessarily singing. JC doesn't sing in his band.
I have my doubts though that the audiences would continue going in such large numbers. To the majority of Joe Public, Quo is Francis Rossi.

So in a year or two we could have Rhinos Quo,JC Quo and FR Quo??
To carry on the Quo legacy I'd put my money on Sound Of Status.(Can be seen at Minehead)
As been mentioned above Rhino will do great with his Revenge band. His song 'Take em down was on planet rocks *New Band play list* for 10 weeks. Imho it's miles ahead of anything Francis have done since the Heavy Traffic album.

Really enjoyed 'RRII' to be honest, he's not the greatest vocalist in the World for sure, but his solo albums are better than Francis Rossi's for sure. While I'll always be a Frantic Four/Classic Quo Fan first and foremost, I've always thought Rhino has had far too much negativity in his time with Quo (Once I got over the shock of the high held headless bass in '86) The Rhino's Quo thing is b*llocks tbh, he's a member of Quo and has been for the last 31 years. He realises he's not Alan Lancaster, never has been or pretended to be, and respects his roll within Quo...and 'Bad News' is a cracker of a Quo track too letsrock

Hi All, If 'Rhino' did take the reigns wouldn't it just sound like 'Men At Work' covering 'Quo' songs....?
Geoff.

Nothing personal against Rhino but I would much rather watch State of Quo as Ian and the lads have the whole act down very very close to the real Quo.
