I wish he/they had done things differently and were doing things differently now. We both agree on that - its was simply the method of disagreement that was mute point.
At the end of the day, whatever opinion you, I and many others on here have, matters little. They have a completely different audience to play to and are not going to be too concerned of our opinions

I don't care what they do, it's not a band that has held any interest for me for over 30 years - apart from the reunions, of course. Without Rick, Francis Rossi's Status Quo Show will appeal even less than before - if you can have less than not at all. I'd much rather see JC's Quo, or even one of the many tribute bands around, they have more respect for the material they're playing, imo.

I agree with the fact that Spud and the tribute bands have more respect for the material they are playing.
Andy, Rhino, Leon and Richie would probably never have been lucky enough to be successful solo artists. So being in an established band and churning out the songs is the next best thing. Fair play to them. My original post was about if Status Quo becomes a devalued brand, would Rhino and Andy want to disassociate themselves from it.
It must be a dream come true for Richie Malone.
For me, it's all in the name.
If it was called the Francis Rossi Status Quo show, that would be fine with me.
Another example from me would be any Black Sabbath lineup without Ozzy.
I couldn't even listen to any of the Dio songs! Just because they used the Sabbath name.
But as soon as they reunited as Heaven and Hell, I was able to listen to it. I even went to a concert 🤘

My original post was about if Status Quo becomes a devalued brand, would Rhino and Andy want to disassociate themselves from it. How more devalued can the brand get? They've posed naked for an album, made one of the worst films ever, were laughed out of court after suing Radio 1, received illegal airplay by Radio 2, sang Xmas songs with Roy Wood, etc. Now they don't even bother to give a mention on stage to a founding member of the band who was with them for nearly 40 years, yet they will murder his songs. Whatever Quo do - and have done - there are fans that honestly don't care and will lap things up regardless.

Quo have become devalued to a few of us on the forum. But Rossi and Porter make most of their money from the 'general public Quo fan'
No disrespect to these fans, but many of them wouldn't be able to name the founding members, or anyone in the current band other than Rossi.
This group of fans is being conned.

John had plenty of success before Quo, he was the bassist for Dexy's midnight runners as well as a respected studio musician, he also wrote what I consider one of the most "Quo" songs of the later years, namely bad news as well as co writing with Rick. Andy had really been a part of the band since the 70's it was just never acknowledged officially.
I have a fair bit of respect for both of them, It took me a lot of years to accept Quo-lite and admit the good rock songs where fewer and further between mainly due to the end of the Rick/Nuff/Spud writing and arranging combo not being there anymore also less and less of Ricks songs being used.
Now were left with Not-Quite-Quo-Lite and to be honest after being a fan for nearly 50 years I'm no longer interested in whats being pimped out as Quo

I even went to a concert 🤘 I saw them on the first tour with Ronnie James Dio & it all worked surprisingly well - although, perhaps it shouldn't have come as a surprise as Dio was one of the best rock vocalists ever. Obviously Ozzy has a distinctive style of his own that works perfectly for Sabbath. I take it you never saw the incarnation featuring Ian Gillan?!

It feels a far cry from when I first became a fan. Most of us who waited, minus internet, for any snippet of Quo then and lapped up everything they offered are a distant memory to Francis and Simon Porter.
Its all about anyone who wants hits, hits and more hits . It doesn't matter if there is only one original member of the FF left (plus Andy of course) its all about anyone who will pay lots of cash for lots of karaoke

Maybe there's some heavily complex plan involved, but it always makes me laugh when people (not meaning you) say that Porter is doing the best job he can. I fail to see how any of his ideas have maximised Quo's profits and/or potential audience, which is his job. TPAOY. 10 million+ Corrie viewers and still the album - and its singles - stalled in one of the worst sales periods for music. ISOTFC. With its tongue-in-cheek humour and Indiana Jones theme (Porter's idea), album did no better than the previous. QPQ. Just four weeks in the charts. BQ. Movie flopped. Album only in the charts for three weeks. Aquostic. For all it sold, punters didn't go in their droves to buy tickets for the acoustic shows. Add to that, the copious amounts of airplay given by Radio 2 (at times contradicting their selection policy), Quo should be swimming in it, but no. Sad that in no other band or business it would be tolerated.
