Why did Australian radio ignore QUO's output after WYW 1979? Yet they continued playing lesser quality bands when members departed. Let me know whether this is a worthy topic.

No idea, I can only guess the radio industry deemed the band a bit 'samey'. For me it was just so hard to understand why most people, including school mates etc, perceived Quo as just not worthy....'you should be into Black Sabbath or Deep Purple...Supertramp etc" and I'd tell them to go see them live next time they tour here....which sadly they never did until 1997. I remember each album release, after Blue For You, was a disappointment for me. There were a sprinkling of good songs on those albums but overall nowhere near as the strength of Piledriver to BFY. The last album released over here was Back To Back. Funny when I have a look at my albums from RAOTW through to Back To Back...I can't see a scratch on them.

The radio station would go, "Oh, those 3 chord songs band again, pass".

With having failed to dent the US it seems as though Quo gave up on long range tours in general and got into a largely European focus rut. This was a pity as Oz had been a perfect additional backwater of large support for the FF
If you don't keep visiting your places of support, no surprise you don't sustain airplay.
So I don't think it can all have been about the changes in studio musical style, I think they lost momentum simply also because they lost motivation to do proper world tours.
I can understand why Aussie Quo fans felt short changed. Quo also lost ground to the likes of AC/DC who carried on growing momentum despite the loss of Bon Scott at the same time as Quo disintegrated. Plus also AC/DC made it big in the US where Quo failed.
I know that TVQ used to get some ribbing about banging on about "global focus" and citing AL as spokesman for emphasis most every post, but being fair he had a point

I heard Rick say in an interview that due to a lack of airplay they stopped touring Downunder. Catch 22. Chicken or the egg. Ok,so they've solved the conundrum of the latter. If they'd toured, may be radio would've given support. We'll never know:) Imagine the Whatever You Want Tour The Just Supposin' Tour The Never Too Late Tour
NTL and JS sat just outside Australian Top 40 chart with little or no airplay.
Whatever You Want as a single peaked at #24 with moderate airplay. RAOTW peaked at #22 with saturation airplay

NTL and JS sat just outside Australian Top 40 chart with little or no airplay. I just checked on OZ charts and these two actually charted at 33 and 31, which if correct is much better than I thought. Could've gone top 10 if they toured.
