Well listening to that you get some insight at last to what Francis is really thinking regarding Rick and how things have been in general and it is, thankfully, very different to the parallel universe that has put on as a front to cover it all up.
I don't know about anyone else, but I agree with the Solent interviewer in appreciating him being sensible, for once, and saying what he thinks without always resorting to annoying jokes all the time to glaze over anything difficult.
It would still have been good to have seen a glimpse of this at the recent gigs, in terms of just a quick word to the crowds (or something simple like that) but always better late than never. I think this helps close that chapter and its time to move on.

I have found sensible interviews vs larking around/repetitive annoying anecdote interviews a ratio of only approx 1:4
When he does cut the BS however, he can be highly interesting to listen to.

Good grief, a serious interview from Rossi....They are rarer than Hen's teeth
While finally giving some thoughts away (and credit to the interviewer for the effective but respectful probing) he still would have Gained more credibility and respect if he'd have said something at that first gig. Even if it was merely 'this is for Rick' or something else short and to the point, before they started playing...Maybe he's waiting until they play in Britain to say something, I dunno. 😳

He started off with the usual BS but thankfully the interviewer didn't fall for it and kept asking respectfully about his feelings. Then he opened up and at last he was genuine.

At last we get an interview with Francis that I think is closer to the way he actually feels. Kudos to the interviewer for respectfully digging a little bit deeper to get to the truth.
Just when I want to hate the bloke for not mentioning Rick he opens up and admits that he misses him.
Why couldn't he have said this from the start?

I'm sad to say that I'm not a fan of Rossi, though it's good, no, it's great to see the defence shield come down at last.

Listened...Feel it's odd
Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting him to be gushing praise or any of that sort of stuff but, the whole "meh life goes on and I'm doing my gig" line doesn't sit well with me I'm afraid.
I appreciate he still wants to perform and record etc...Once it's in you, you can't get rid of it so I completely understand and agree with him on that....But, performing as "Quo" and playing Rick's songs half arsed? Nah sorry...
Also, what fans continue to love it??

Also, what fans continue to love it?? This was the eyebrow raising bit.
In simple terms, its not those of us who possibly did a lot to get them where they possibly were...
Its those who like their annual bop to RAOTW. That's the song they are famous for, you see

I liked what he said about the only things that would've been left unsaid would've been negative things, its best to be like that sometimes. He definetly misses Rick a hell of a lot and I think that's the closest any of us will get to hearing him "open up" about it. If it had been the other way round Rick probably would've openly and publicly laid his soul bare about how he felt about losing his mate, nothing wrong with that though, was just his way, and Francis has his way obviously.

Agree with your post steveh , do you think the bit I've quoted is a sub conscious effort by Francis to kind of warn off RPJ , in to not releasing any derogatory stories whilst " Francis 's status quo " is still trying to earn . In conjunction with Simon Porter's comments the other day it could appear as if battle lines are being drawn up .

I think this helps close that chapter and its time to move on. I agree, I think he should have said a little something. Making speeches quickly turns mushy (JC was different, that was a small gig full of old fans, almost a family gig, and a one off at the time.) But he could have said a word. Years ago I was sad that one of my great heroes, when his old colleague died suddenly, he said nothing in public. (He was in touch with the family and did support them.) OK the band had long broken up, so he didn't really have a vehicle. Long after in a biography he did say what needed to be said, and my heart was lightened. But I don't think he was a saying-something-in-public kind of person. We might think Francis is, but he isn't really. Still it would not have hurt to put in a few words. But if he did, no doubt there would be some who slagged him off for not saying enough, or the right thing, or wearing the wrong coloured trousers.
