There may be many disappointed about things in respect of Rick, but there are at least as many sad to be reading snippets like these, irrespective of the news source. Its possible to disapprove of actions that take place, but that doesn't mean anyone wants division and rift between band, fans and those closest to the band following the death of one its core players
So "hate" has no place whatsoever.

Yes I know I'm going to be slammed over this but I reckon Francis will hopefully open up on his memories of Rick in their memorial concert. I can feel for Francis I've been in a business partnership with a very close mate for going on 34 years. Best of mates ...rugby league, water skiing fishing etc etc but after all the years working in business together there are strains where I can absolutely appreciate Rick and Francis's pain. A business partnership is very hard work and the absolute peak is trust in each other. Don't put all the shit on Francis imo.... believe me there would be 2 sides to this story. I'm surprised Quo lasted this long. Partnerships are very hard work....especially 50 years whoaah..

Quo were a fivesome between 1970-1977 After that, it slowly and suddenly became all about Francis, to the point where Francis would actually go on TV and sulk when he didn't get it all his own way (It's Christmas Time anyone?) Even the FTMO interviews that talked about the songs on each new album, he'd be very dismissive of Rick's. The whole "partnership" thing was just for show from 1990 onwards.

I think we have to accept Rick and Francis are (were) very different people with quite different qualities. Its clear how much management are behind what is going on behind the scenes and with such a topsy tury year that culminated with the loss of Rick, we cannot be sure of exactly what Francis/band and management are really thinking - even if as I said yesterday they appear to be on a parallel universe. *She hopes that last part doesn't make the press* doh

Simon Porters full statement, The Mirror has cut some of it out.
The band and I were extremely surprised and disappointed to hear about comments made online suggesting that the much-missed Rick Parfitt had been treated unfairly by the band in that period of time between him being forced to stand down from touring work and his tragic death late last year. 'Rick remained a full member of the band and, we are prepared to reveal, was paid his full entitlement of all monies relating to both live and recorded work, despite him being unable - on well-documented medical grounds - to undertake Quo performances. 'His contribution to the band can never be understated, and never would be by anyone with direct connections to Status Quo. Things are not the same since his death, nor should they be, but the show goes on because band and fans alike still love this amazing music. 'When I last met with Rick three days before his passing, he was already aware that he would never be able to perform live with the band again and it was his express wish that Quo should continue to perform live, not least because he would personally continue to be financially rewarded for all future Quo work. 'Finally, such expressions are particularly unhelpful when you consider that the band had to step in and pay for both Rick’s repatriation from Spain and his funeral service as a result of a family dispute. 'It’s very sad, but I am not prepared to have Quo’s good name taken in vain when fans are led to believe that he "had been treated awfully". Nothing could be further from the truth.'

freewilly, I'm positive Quo is/was a business partnership. Big difference between business partnerships and 'just mates' partnership. Quo has been a business for a looong time.

I think we fans understand that they weren't initially a partnership And they weren't for 20+ years one either. But post 84 when the record company wanted a Francis led Quo to complete the album (s) for which they'd been paid an advance (I'm presuming here), then it did become a partnership. With Rick and Francis dominating the publicity/promo of the band and presumably, behind the scenes, owning the business rights etc... So for 30 years the pair of them were promoting the band, travelling on the road together each year and liaising over of product and business. I would call that a partnership.

Was there a need to mention a family dispute and having to pay for the funeral? That's fucked up. 2. Mate, you dragged the name through the dirt long enough. Only time it regained it's glory was in 2013 and 2014

Oh sure, publically they were a partnership but, behind the scenes I doubt it very much.

A rock n roll band with two blokes who no one on this board knew in a business or personal basis. The main thing for me is that they always put on a united front and really gave it the treatment on stage.I reckon they were okay.
