Oh dear. Look, as a tribute band it would be up there as a great comparison and to have fun for what it is - a tribute to a great band, Status Quo. BUT....calling this lot Status Quo the legit, real thing??? Gimme a break. They are 'getting by' on what Francis has left. To be honest, I don't think they could do better than that. But say it like it is, it AINT Quo, and then all would be fine and dandy. Rossi solo tour ok no probs. Rhino's Revenge, ok no probs. Andy Bown solo gig, ok no probs. Richie jamming out some Quo numbers with a group of musicians, ok no probs. BUT calling a bunch of newbies with Rossi collectively STATUS QUO? C'mon, only a couldn't give a toss about the band but love a good night out type of gig goer, would get off on this. how long can this seriously go on? seriously? What a disgrace the Status Quo name has become. Poor Rick.

To put it mildly, that isn't good. You can probably get away with WYW where FR sings some of the chorus, but where it is a Rick vocal, they need to admit they can no longer do the song live. The time has come Francis to stop. Do solo record and tour, neither will probably sell wel l, but this is not SQ anymore. I suppose that's the reason right there for this charade continuing. If Francis went out solo and played a mix of stuff I'd respect him far more. This is now only about money. If it was about creativity the set would be mixed up, new songs would be played, etc. I didn't bite so not seen the clip. Genuinely have no interest in "SQ" without Rick Don't care now what Francis does or says. I think a lot of fans still do, and are hurting? Why....because we grew up idolizing him.....and later in life we see his character flaws and feel disappointed in him. At the end of the day he's a bloke that plays guitar in a band and sings. He's been part of some of the greatest times of our lives....and I'm tired of all the grief he gets. Yes he's old now, quietly milking it for his retirement fund (if he ever does retire). I know some fans don't like that....but he's doing it. A lot of fans saying he should stop have been saying the same thing for decades! I'm going to turn a blind eye to the CQ future, it's time for me to move on

This is just a Quo gig like it has been for years, as if nothing has happened apart from Rick turning into a 30 year old who doesn't sound the same.

And without the stage presence of Rick Parfitt. I think our dissatisfaction is more to do with wanting to see specific rock stars who we have idolised since youth on the stage.

I think Francis himself would be a whole lot happier and more comfortable going out on the road with his solo outfit, instead of pretending he's still in status quo

I know some fans don't like that....but he's doing it. A lot of fans saying he should stop have been saying the same thing for decades! I'm going to turn a blind eye to the CQ future, it's time for me to move on 1) Richie Malone in the band to offer diversity and help inspire fresh creativity from Francis
2) The all round capabilities of Andy Bown and Rhino's bass playing 3) What should be the obvious sensitivity of playing songs either sung or written by Rick (either at all, or to an acceptable standard) 4) The mere fact that they have nothing to lose let alone the mindless samey-ness of the set since the Pre-Cambrian era
...There are more reasons than one can shake a stick at for a wholesale change in set list and change of approach. Its sloppily lazy and complacent as well as lacking some tact towards the memory of Rick.
In terms of the "leave Francis alone" chestnut and being entitled to do as he wishes so late in his career and that he somehow gets blamed for everything, the answer is that is if he insists on persisting with the Quo name in the way it is on this evidence, then he should expect criticism from fans of a band in that name also to persist.
After all, the average jo in the street who runs their business beyond what is seen as its sell by date in terms of sub standard product, would expect criticism for this from long standing customers and not blindly carry on regardless if they respect their loyalty. Many of these have much greater need for money in their daily lives than Francis, on a relative basis. So why should he as the leading member of a rock band be above critique?
He is lucky that there are people who will still buy this product. Many mere mortals on the street will not get a second chance for continuing to sell what is viewed as a metaphorical pup.
So I don't buy at all the criticising him for years as a broad-brush assessment of fan attitude. A lot of fans have been extremely patient with him and the band in terms of some of the dubious strategies over the years. Tolerating all the gimmicks, but still welcoming the better albums from CQ when they have come along as well of course returning to joyously celebrate the FF reunion(s). Of which Francis was an integral part. Its not fans fault if he chooses to be indifferent to all that and subsequently head in an opposite direction
I did actually "move on" before Rick died, but his loss prompted a respectful return - as well as an opportunity to participate once more after a break.
But that said, while I expect in the grand scheme of things in our daily lives in the wider world, SQ post Rick will not lose most of us too much sleep in terms of what they choose to do, seeing as this is a forum designated for folk congregate to discuss the band, then the calls to move on are rather hollow.
Whether we continue to air views on the site as members, or simply harbour them privately, it doesn't change the legitimacy of opinions or make them any less valid.

@catlady fair comments, and I've certainly been critical of FR during recent years. It's just me right now - unable to feel anything about the band and what it does since Rick's death. I didn't mean to sound critical of fans who are critical of him. I guess my current thinking is "bugger it, he isn't going to change, plus he's old now. Stick with him or move on."
For me, that CQ gig goers have every right to complain about the set list etc So do the ones who would go if it was changed. But for me, it wouldn't matter now and I simply wouldn't go and see "SQ" without Rick. And tbh, after the reunion shows, I wasn't even keen on seeing CQ with Rick...and did so just the once.
As for moving on, I keep hearing the line....."too late for me, too late for you" !

My own reasons for disappointment are that CQ barely touched their own catalogue of 30 yrs, of which I really like and enjoy a fair amount. So its not just about the FF legacy (though that was my hey-day peak) its also that they have even ended up parodying themselves.
That was the beginning of the end for me and why I am even more cynical (unfortunately) that the parody has gone even further still after Rick has left in terms of the same old and very sub standard fare they are producing on evidence of latest shows.
I'm also not interested in what they do now in terms of wanting to be a part of it, but its hard after so many decades to accept such an unsatisfactory end stage in the career of a band where there has been enough to sustain my own interest since the mid 70's when I first became a fan. That first period may have been the best, but there has been plenty since which in my book was perfectly useable to spice up the 21st century stage show.
Quo not only wasted the original peak of their career in a process that culminated in the mid eighties, they increasingly wasted the best of the second part of their career through trying too hard to copy the first part. The third part, post Rick, now sees the parody of the second part complete, let alone the first part which they have parodied with Stars on 45 hits for so long..

If you want further annoyance take a trip over to the lighter side.
There they are in 'Happy Birthday Mr Ritchie' mode and almost at a point of 'Rick who?'. The tone is that life simply moves on and 'Quo' are now better and better by the day for all the improvements and clearing away of cob webs. To think otherwise is simply dinosaur behaviour and not progressive.
It is unbelievable but then again there are only about half a dozen or so regulars on the site.

Francis would do better on vocals, more personality in his voice. But then, it really should be laid to rest now with it's author.

Their main mod hates Alan, hates the FF material, makes condescending remarks towards JC and labelled Alan a violent, drug addict, who got nasty and aggressive when he didn't get his fix of cocaine This despite there is nothing to suggest Alan even went near the stuff and that he was fond of his dope Now, it's all about should Richie or Rhino get Rick's songs... They're the worst of the worst

"Business....workmates....why bother about the fans, none of our business". Righty oh then. The marketing men have a lot to do with it TBH than the band. They want maximum return for the product outlay. Badging them as Status Quo will make more money than them being badged as Rossi/Bown/Edwards. Same with Queen. Brian May and Roger Taylor did solo tours playing Queen songs between 1993-2006 they sold a quarter of the seats they sell as Queen + (Add Singer). The music's the same but the marketing is not. David Gilmour got away with it because he tour's so little and it helped sell the tickets.

In all honesty it isn't as bad as some on here are making out, Rhino does an ok job on vocals (though a few too many 'without the rain' lines), at the end of the day he's not Rick and he isn't going to sing/sound like Rick.
What actually ruined it for me was when Francis joined in on vocals, should have left Rhino to it as Francis was singing completely out of time.
