It's very tempting to call Status Quo a tribute band now.
But at least with the 'real' tribute bands, they love the original sound and play the music how we want to hear it.
Unfortunately for those who go and see the 'Status Quo' tribute band, all you get is a bored Francis Rossi phoning it in to earn a fast buck.
I'd rather be in a club watching people who actually care about Quo's legacy.

There is a video from Helsinki of Caroline on the Status Quo fan club Facebook page (not ftmo) and it shows an audience of about 300 (I'm completely serious on that number btw) sat down (except about 10) watching the show like its some end of the pier band in Blackpool on a wet Monday afternoon. Truly upsetting

Yes it does. We can't blame Richie. If i was his age with the opportunity that he has been presented I would be Rick's incarnation down to a tee. I can't begrudge him anything. What I find hard to swallow and by no means accept is that Francis and the marketing machine carries on as if nothing has happened and that it is STILL Quo. Its not by a loooooooooooong way. Sure they entertain the casual punters and that's all it is ever going to be from now on. But the whole thing is a farce that throws shit back in the faces of old Quo fans who helped put where Francis is today and to the memory of Rick. I am sure Alan and John and many insiders must be livid about how Francis has carried on under the Quo name. Hey, its business and I get that but this is not the right way. It is all one big joke and the end of Status Quo is unfolding in the saddest most disappointing way one could imagine. It just could not be worse could it? I most closely agree with all of this (except of course being Rick's incarnation down to a tee )
There are people who are going to these gigs who are todays Quo's fans... who only know about 15 songs, (those played interminably year in year out) from several decades of albums and won't know who Alan and John are and even some who may well be aware that 'one of their guitarists' died but don't really know who he was and what his history was.
I'm not belittling these people, good luck to them if this sort of fare really makes them happy , but there is no getting away from saying is this what "Status Quo" has really come down to?

During the opening notes of Caroline Rossi was already bending like a contortionist, it shows how tired he must be of playing Quo songs. This is just it. He isn't tired of it - its what he wants, its what he craves.
Its show business, its familiar, it means he can lessen the nerves before he gets on stage because every note, every smile, every stage move is set in age old concrete.
"Look at me, don't look at me" follows its diurnal range. The familiarity and rigid routine, routed in show business, makes it easiest to enjoy the relief afterwards that's its done. Its over for another night..and he did it.
Again and again...
Till the next night..and then the next. Till the batteries and the computer programme are taken out till the next show....till the next tour..till the next celebrity appearance
Rinse and repeat....rinse and repeat...

You've got to look at the full arc of the story, from Francis Rossi playing in a band called The Spectres in little clubs in the 60s, then Rick joining and the classic band of the 70s, then it all falling apart in the 80s, and then post Live Aid - a patched up tribute band to itself that was so successful that it managed to last for 30 years, and then we've come full circle now to a band with Francis Rossi in it playing to smaller numbers again.

Er, yes it could be worse. Francis dies, and get replaced by Nick Rossi, and 'Status Quo' carries on... and on... and on... To be completely honest, I can't see how the ongoing "thing" could get any worse with that addition to the show??

I just saw Burning Bridges and wonder if RM guitar is even plugged in.... Ask Francis why he's got the sound guy to change the live mix since Rick last played, though the answer is obvious...

With endless rinse and repeat cyles you eventually end up losing any resemblance of the initial colour you had.

Refuse to watch the clips but from comments from those who have I think the whole thing is sick, a tragedy and farce.
Find it hard to believe that people would actually go to see this and pay and that they think they are seeing 'Status Quo'. False representation by this masquerade band of muppets in my opinion.
Unlike Alan, Rossi failed to have any form of authentic solo career and success and it must sicken him that he has to play in a tribute show band playing music he despises to get any form of audience.

He doesn't despise the music though - he is sold on the set remaining the same till the very last gasp and his opinion is that the band has a new lease of life.
He wants this - he is happy with it. Its been clear from interviews made.

Awful, absolutely bloody turgid to watch. I really have no interest in anything Rossi does now. The band I loved is gone, dead. He should retire and spare us. Nothing more than detestable the way he is carrying on with this farce, showing zero respect to the memory of Rick. He doesn't have a shred of decency in him. I wish he would fade off into obscurity but sadly, while there are casual fans who will still give him the opportunity to wring more and more money out of the once great status quo name, he will continue to drag it on, and on...and on, and...

If (and it is a fairly massive "if") they felt the need to (or were contractually obliged to) carry on with an electric set, why did they not use some footage of Rick doing the intro to Caroline?
Queen do this on opening to Bohemian Rhapsody with footage of Freddie Mercury.
Massive screen at the back, Rick powering out the intro.... band then comes in.
Fitting tribute and respect to the guy.
It really is like they are going through the motions...
