Catlady said "They also needed to wait till they were 'less out of it' to be able to admit 'we were out of it' Alan and John both speak with so much more clarity, without any compulsive need to have to say something that is funny to try and make people laugh, about the past than either Francis or Rick. Although they (Francis and Rick) were 'out of it' I think they use their typical cheeky chappy humour over this these days, and well rehearsed replies in interviews and on telly, to cover over their discomfort over things that happened, and divert their audience away from dwelling on it too much. You won't find any of that from either Alan or John. Since the reunions, and interviews for the first time properly in the wider media, I've been quite struck by the different approaches of the two halves of the FF. It speaks volumes really. Its certainly expanded my own perceptions. " Catlady sounds like a smart cookie I said in an earlier POST that Francis appears to be giving answers that he thinks people want to hear and the humour is a tool of diversion. On the point of CHEEKY CHAPPY HUMOUR, many years ago I heard Alan say that Francis and Rick had their own private language that only they knew and understood, which I think would've caused/created a division in the QUO CAMP.

Francis and Rick had a brand to promote/protect. It was in Alan and John's interest to criticise/be less guarded to sell their points of view/alternatives. This is pretty common in the world of celebrity revelations.

It was about rock music, not "a brand" at one time. "The brand" came into being simply when the very unpretentious became much more pretentious and it became all about gimmicks, celebrity style entertainment and karaoke instead
Its a pity that both Alan and John were left redundant and paid the price at the expense of "the brand" at the same time as being left redundant to do anything about preventing it turning everything that the original formula had stood for completely on its head

Yes, somebody once posted an old interview from the 70's (maybe OGWT?) where Rick said it's all about 'feeling' the music. Unfortunately later on, feeling the music seems to have become secondary to the business plan of promoting the brand.

Hi All, @catlady vivfromcov So who was to blame for the reversal in the bands ideals ? John/Alan/Francis or Rick/All/Management/Outside Influences ? Could it have been them adapting to the ever changing music scenes and music fans tastes ? Could it have been the Money men ? We all know about the Drugs/Booze and the individuals private lives affecting them but when all said and done everything all in a mixing pot could the final outcome be what we have been so critical of since Alan left ?
Is it possible that both John and Alan were not to critical but just enough to keep them in the spot light and only when they thought Francis had stepped over a line or possibly gone back on a back room deal they all made at some point after each departure. ?
It seems to me that a group of band mates who were close friends at one point in time became self aware, with one member possibly trying to input himself as the main talent or leader of the band and bugger what anyone else has to say. If so who was behind that push that no matter how you look at it caused the band to jump from one track to another minus a couple of carriages sadly...
Geoff.

In the 70's Quo was just about making music and playing great live shows, post 85 it was mainly about sustaining and advancing the celebrity status of Rossi and Parfitt. They even say in their 93 autobiography that Alan was jealous because he wasn't as famous as them which i thought was absolutely pathetic. The only people that mattered to Alan were the Quo army and to us all the band members were equally famous.

Granted, I'm sure John and Rick did too but, Alan stood for it and sadly, paid the price
