It's a excellent album but it is my least favorite of the FF albums. Though it is in my top 10 Quo albums of all time.

Probably the best SQ album and the one with the best FR solos. My fave album of all-time.

Love the album but never been keen on the production of Backwater and Just Take Me. Don't know why or what it is but they sound different from the rest of the album... The whole album has a slightly different sound to any other Quo release, imo, but I've never considered those tracks to sound different to the rest of the album - good excuse to play the whole thing again! IMO... if there's any song that sounds different from the rest it's BTR. That one sounds clean, the rest all have sonic problems ranging from acceptable to nearly ruining the songs (particularly the last two)!

The Quo and Pildriver albums of all the FF hey-day albums sound like they were recorded straight from the magic circle onto the record. The most raw sounding albums.
The others up to BFY are kind of half way house with a little cleaning up of the sound, but not too much to take away the essence of what Quo were about those days. I think this is why RAOTW coming along afterwards was such a shock to many at the time - though personally my head had gone boom and because I was so grooved out by the Live experience I hardly noticed or cared at all letsrock

I agree that they probably cleaned up the single but I'm not so sure about "sonic problems" elsewhere as that's a rather subjective issue - if you like the sound, it's not a problem.

Yes, thinking again, you are right. I had considered including it but didn't because it had more of that retro mono type sound that was also on MKGS. Less full on than the Vertigo albums and more the kind of sound that typified late sixties/start of 70's blues/rock music. It was kind of paving the way for Piledriver afterwards - if any of all that makes sense!?
MKGS might have identified the change from fiskadelic to boogie, but DOTH was the starting point of the experimentation with changes in energy, power and pace that went on to become the classic traits of all Quo's boogie rock during the peak period from Piledriver to BFY.
I think that DOTH and Quo are the two most progressive albums in terms of such invention within the songs.

Absolutely correct! Saw a documentary the other day about the sound of music (no, not that one!) and The Beatles Revolution was exampled - they turned the faders up deliberately to overload on that one for the effect - so it is full of 'sound problems' but sounds brilliant!

It's to simple in it's arrangements compared to the rest of the record. It's much brighter and cleaner as well, a little bit silly. Remember I did not use to like that song very much. Now I think it's ok. It's better than anything post 76'.

This is easily my favorite album. After that, Piledriver, Hello, OTL and BFY are all tied for second. The remixed RAOTW is third.

Piledriver, Hello, Quo is my top three album. Which is number one depends from day to day. But I like the Quo album so much. Loud. In the car...

I'll be accused of heresy but I'm never that fussed on Quo. The albums leading up to it and a few after it get played in entirety by me. Hello and OTL are my picks. Rossi said Quo was "unbalanced so then we came out with "On The Level" which suggests maybe the band weren't 100% happy with it. Don't get me wrong, some great tracks but it is rare I play it right through. Same with BFY - I always have to skip Ease Your Mind!
