It's 40 years ago today, that on a very cold Sunday morning, together with 5 other Quo fans, we made our way from Essex to Stafford, for the Quo's Daily Mirror, Rock & Pop awards concert. I can't remember much about the gig, but I'm sure it was the normal, loud, sweaty, in yer face, no nonsense rock. What I do remember, is queuing, what seemed hours, in an icy field, waiting to get in to an equally cold Bingly Hall, barn. Waiting on a snowy Stafford Station, for the early Monday morning train to London, getting the paper/milk train from London home and being in work at 8 O'clock!!! Happy days for a 19 year old.

Appears Show was recorded as well, John Coghlan posted this on facebook "Today we commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Daily Mirror Rock & Pop Awards Poll Winners Party held at Stafford Bingley Hall. Quo were voted Top 'Hard Rock Band' of 1976 by Daily Mirror readers. Band members were each awarded an Onyx Cigarette Lighter for this achievement. The event was compered by John Peel. Quo's set was recorded by ATV. However only Is There A Better Way, Roll Over Lay Down & Don't Waste My Time were eventually broadcast at a later date. Set List: Junior's Wailing Backwater Just Take Me Is There a Better Way In My Chair Little Lady Most of the Time Rain Forty-Five Hundred Times Roll Over Lay Down Big Fat Mama Don't Waste My Time Roadhouse Blue Encore: Caroline Bye Bye Johnny

The same set list as the "Live" album recorded at Glasgow a few months earlier and was released as a double album, 2 months later from the Bingley Hall gig. I think I'm right in saying, that the 'Hard Rock Catogery' was an after thought, as Wings won top Rock Band of 1976, according to the Daily Mirror awards, but couldn't or wouldn't play Bingley Hall, so Quo appeared as Hard Rock winners

Still baffles me how they weren't launched into America during, what I believe, was when they were at the peak of their powers in 76-78. I've seen most of the worlds 'super bands' since then and not one has neared the power Quo use to put out live.

The above picture really is wonderful as there are not many of the fans during those all conquering (apart from the USA) heady days!
