From Quo's Manager Simon Porter:
On behalf of family, band, management, crew, Rick’s many friends and, not least, Quo’s huge army of fans, I would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of sympathy and support today.
It is very much appreciated and perhaps now is the time to reflect at the end of a terrible day, coming at a time when we should all be celebrating both Christmas and the end of another year.
On a personal note, I have known Rick for over thirty years as a friend, PR and, for the past fifteen years, as Quo’s manager. There have been incredible highs, numerous laughs and some extremely dark periods. It has been an absolute rollercoaster and I probably wouldn’t have had it any other way.
I really think that we all thought that Rick was invincible, given his numerous and astounding recoveries from situations which would certainly have killed the average human being. Indeed, early this morning when I initially heard the news that he had taken a serious turn, my mind instantly thought that he would come around by Boxing Day.
Sadly, as we now know, his luck had run out and his line that ‘it will take more than death to kill me’ has taken a hollow ring. Quo fans should know and take comfort in the fact that his passing has, ironically, come at a time when Rick was in a happier place career wise than he had been for a long, long, time.
I had dinner with Rick in Malaga on Tuesday evening and met with him again on Wednesday morning. Although he was in pain from a shoulder injury incurred as a result of an accidental fall, he was in good spirits and extremely excited about the future. Rick had come to terms that he would be unable to tour with Quo again, but he continued to be very much part of the Quo machine and we discussed future plans for the band. More importantly, however, Rick was ecstatic and excited with the news and contracts that I was able to give him for his autobiography, a solo album and a UK ‘evening with’ tour, all scheduled to take place in May of next year.
Sadly and less than three days later, all of our exciting plans have now gone bust in an instant.
Rick was the ultimate Rocker and lived the dream, plus a whole lot more. In perhaps the worst ever year for showbiz deaths, it is perhaps fitting that he topped the list right at the end of the year. He would have liked that.

How can you, Simon, say such a thing like that? What a brass neck! It was YOUR job to make Rick's career a happy place for the last 30 years, but YOU and David Walker failed completely at that. Wringing every last penny out of Quo, no regard for the quality of the product or its promotion. Rick would have been in a happier place within Quo - if your words have any basis - if the band had been managed properly, which it could and should have been. Of course, "You wouldn't have had it any other way", but that's just typical of you. Completely selfish and rotten to the core. "All of our exciting plans". OUR?!! FFS. Unbelievable. Just go now. I am glad to hear that Rick was happy. But at what expense, Rick was at the high in Dublin 2014. Since then things have totally nose dived in a band that he loved. And to suggest that he was then finding happiness outside the band says it all, as he certainly wasn't getting it inside the band. I accept that Porter will be sad, but no more unnecessary PR please, and by that I mean spin that will only annoy me more. Happy that they keep Rick in the limelight, he deserves that. And i I accept that Rossi will be sad too. There is a stage of grief in relation to anger, and I am feeling that in equal amounts of sadness

Deepthroat
Now is NOT the time to expel your vitriol and hatred to Simon Porter, he has just lost a close personal friend of 30 years!
Your comments are appalling !
(DQ you're not far behind by quoting this idiot)

(DQ you're not far behind by quoting this idiot) We won't argue over this, but I am clear that my response is proportionate to the timing. As I say, I accept both have lost lost a friend, but I am angry and that's a natural feeling, especially as I believe Rick has been let down.

That message was a very tough read - hearing that as recently as midweek Rick was in such good spirits and so buoyant about 2017. Against the background of all he went through, against a lot of odds, it makes the sudden savage twist all the more painful.
Imagine if SP had posted that as a midweek update on Rick - this place would have been really upbeat and made yesterday even harder to comprehend than it already is
First sympathies must be to those who were closest to Rick - his closest family and children (young and older). But that also very much includes SP, management and band-mates past and present. This is surely the least appropriate time of all to vent prejudices and disillusionment with any aspect of the band/management and their approach to the music.
These people will be feeling the loss of Rick even greater than many on here who haven't lived close to him for so long like they have.

Mr.Porter could have made that statement short and to the point and therefore not containing anything questionable. Let us indeed give it few days for us to take onboard what has happened and then things that need to be questioned will be questioned.

Not a conspiracy over this please Bloke is too ill to continue with job Job has to go on due to other workers need to get paid and will lose lots of money. Bloke dies
This happens everyday,what's the issue?
Rick Parfitt was a fine guitar player who as far as I'm aware has no history of chronic heart trouble. It seems, and I emphasize seems, that his heart trouble were caused by drugs, over indulgence in alcohol and smoking. He was repeatedly warned by doctors, family and co-workers to be careful. His lifestyle and wilful ignorance of medical opinion has killed him.In my opinion this family man was a idiot to keep on with his style of living. The other bloke who gets so much abuse on here recognised his lifestyle was a danger to him and stopped it for the good of the job,he keeps fit, pays UK taxes and leads from the front and is bluntly honest about the band and is despised by many on here...go figure.

I think many people commented on Simon Porters statement before even reading it... Don't see why anyone is kicking up a stink? So what if Porter was offering/going to support Rick with his solo endeavours, at least something was being planned for May 2017... without Porter, Rick would've had to find another management team and even if he did, no gigs would've been planned for early on like this. He might not be the greatest manager in the world but it was up to Rick to decide whether to work with him... which he clearly did. So WHY oh WHY are people moaning at the fact he said 'our exciting plans'... The "Evening With Rick Parfitt" gig were obviously something they both cooked up together. No need for any frustrations at all... nothing wrong has been said.
Cheers

I don't want to get into that anymore and am clear that Simon will be devastated.
