I don't have a problem with Francis liking the music types he does at all. In fact I welcome that What isn't good at all though is that he parodies these genres he claims to be inspired by through the remnants of Status Quo - which is also parodying both its original and, incredibly, newer version (that both included Rick) anyway. Express these different strands of music as much as you wish, but do so PROPERLY without degrading both the genre and your own bands music - and desist saying crassly stupid and contradictory things in apparent denial of what has influenced you in the past and which clearly has also inspired so many other of your contemporaries. Finally, with all that in mind, do a PROPER interview without acting up and saying things purely to get a reaction. Its beyond predictable, annoying and inanely boring. Thanks in advance

Tomorrow, the meanwhile famous hard rock festival at Wacken in Germany is going to start. This year, for the first time, Status Quo will join. Quo's appearance had been announced shortly before Rick's death. Reading a recent interview of Francis with "Südtirol News" it seems that it won't become his favourite festival. An excerpt which I have retranslated into English: Q: On Thursday you are playing at Wacken. 75,000 metalheads will be flooding this small town of about 1,800 inhabitants. Francis Rossi: That we are going to appear among all these squallers, it makes me realize again that I am a pop musician. I like pop, country, blues - music you can sing along with. The idea to get on stage and to grunt, there are men behind it who are controlled by their genitals. That is show-off. Q: Typical macho? Francis Rossi: We males have incredible problems. So, when a group of females is gathering to solve a problem, it takes turns. Ask males to solve the problem and they start with a meeting to determine a leader. He will be the one with the most hairy chest, the greatest balls and the deepest voice. That's just not me. - But nevertheless it will be fun, it will pass, and then we will drive to the next show (laughing). Shows his complete lack of knowledge and prejudice. He forgets some people can like his pop rock as well as extreme metal. Rick lived a good bit of metal. At the risk of making myself unpopular, he is actually right about one thing he says there about female and male approaches to problems. There happens to be some truth that women are more likely to solve a problem though consensus, general discussion and mutual co-operation, whilst men will tend to delve into the pecking order and jostle for leadership to deal with it. However, the problem is that Francis doesn't always practice what he preaches and in the process denies that he is alpha himself in terms of needing to be the leading spokesman and be in charge of everything.
Whatever the views, he sure knows how to insult his crowd...
Poor.

Well, Francis... good luck finding a rock festival that is only attended by women who will gladly pay to hear your tweedly-dee Everly Brothers tosh. If no such festival exists, create your own. Call it F-ROCK. All women like dresses, you know. Or is that as patronisingly sexist as your own comments?

I know we are talking stereo types. But my reply is Thatcher and May... He seems to want to emulate at least one or both of them. Each sound-bite seems to get more inflammatory and out of touch than the last.

@catlady: I agree with your descriptions - including the different behaviour of (most) males and (most) females. But these differences have natural roots and we should only beware of exaggeration and misuse. Rock music, and in particular hard, heavy and metal rock, are usually loud and "macho". How many Quo songs have lyrics where the "ladies" are not assumed to be feminists? I think this is part of the game - rock music is not a copy of everyday life. I respect if Francis today dislikes this - but why is he then going to Wacken? A vegetarian should not walk into a steakhouse and blame people for eating meat.

Very nicely put - your final illustration also sums up what you say particularly well

In the next issue of Classic Rock, Francis Rossi gives us an explosive insight

He really does himself no favours at all does he?. Think about this for a second....
He has put Alan down so much since 1986....Degraded him, ousted him from the band, done things behind his back, spoke poorly of his songwriting, playing etc etc...
Yet, Francis says Alan apologised to him in 2012 and then said he hasn't spoken to him since Christmas, since Alan insulted him....
That's not normal....
