A great way to finish off the lengthy and well-attended German tour with the gig at the Olympiahalle last night. The venue was part curtained off, so I'd estimate a crowd of about 6000 and they really got into it (and for Heep too). It's obviously been a successful few weeks around Germany for the band with hefty audience numbers everywhere they've been and it's been great to be a small part of it (only six shows on the tour here for me). Full review to follow, as usual.

The final gig of the fifteen-night German LNOTE tour saw Quo playing at the famous Olympiahalle in Munich on 30th December. Arriving later than usual at about 6.30pm, there was no queue left for the Golden Circle folks so we got straight in and, after a few mistaken attempts to navigate down to the right area, secured a decent spot between Rhino and Francis, two rows off the barrier.
This massive venue (capacity of 16000 or so according to their official site) was curtained off somewhere around halfway, but what remained filled up very nicely by the time Quo appeared. The seating area was one of the steepest and highest I've ever seen in a venue, so it held a lot of people plus the busy floor and packed Golden Circle, so I'd estimate an audience of about 6000 for this show.
This gig gave me one more chance (probably my last ever one) to see the entertaining DRDW and they got a great reaction from the building crowd. It was also nice to hear them expressing gratitude for the opportunity they'd had on the tour, good luck to them.
Uriah Heep then did their sixty minutes, following the same set as for the rest of the German tour but one of their best receptions (at least from the gigs I've attended). Bernie again argued this was too much fun and every night was like Friday night on this tour. Mick Box did the honours in thanking Quo and their crew very warmly, a class act all round and a fine choice of support in this part of the world.
From the time Quo kicked off their familiar LNOTE set with "Caroline" a little after 9pm, it was obvious they were in the mood to make their last German gig a memorable one. They seemed in great spirits and Francis was much more talkative than usual (even to the point of revealing that Rhino was wearing no underwear, a little too much information) and treated us to a longer "Bye Bye Johnny" than I've seen at the previous gigs on this tour. The vibe was good, the crowd always involved and the standout song (and performance) was "Down Down" again, with Francis loving every minute of the big crowd's reactions to him, brilliant.
A fine gig to end the band's trek around Germany as part of the "Last Night of the Electrics" tour and a very enjoyable sixth German show for me too, in the company of good friends! Next stop Amsterdam and the crazy Dutch crowd at the Heineken Hall, looking forward to it!

Hey therockdoctor , what's your reaction to the news that Quo are taking this tour to other countries? Do you plan to continue your tour?

Liverpool is the last one for me on this trip, Gaz. It's already been a long tour, 15 gigs done and 9 left. Good news for the folks who didn't manage to get to any gigs on the current dates for whatever reason.

Nearly 8000 for Munich.
The problem in Germany is that we haven't got the venues or theatres for an audience in a capacity around 5000-8000. After all the german tour was a huge success with nearly every gig sold out. Sold out means, every modern multicomplex Arena over here has a smaller concert size (mostly curtained off somewhere around halfway).
Thanks Lee for your little tour log. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Germany and Let's Rock for the next 9 gigs...

Not trying to offend you but, that has to be the worst excuse I've heard. Every venue in the world is curtained off when it sells shit. Sold out means every seat in the place is sold. It doesn't mean 10,000 seats are left unsold. When one of the FF gigs was poorly attended in Germany, that excuse wasn't made. Sorry but, not buying it

No problem freewilly, I'm with you but for example:
Hamburg Barclay Card Arena
3 different figures: ◾Maximum Capacity: 16,000 seats. ◾Capacity for concerts I: up to 13,000 seats. ◾Capacity for concerts II: up to 8,000 seats. ◾Capacity in Amphitheater: between 3,000 and 4,000 seats.
Hamburg sold 7400 tickets. So not bad for a band like QUO...

Even carrying on (in whatever form or extent that takes) seems unlikely to be lengthy tours like the German and UK ones. One last chance to do the big touring experience was too good a chance to miss for me, I love that whole travel/gig/travel thing. I understand many on this board think this is bizarre, that it's not Status Quo, etc. but I still enjoy following the bad as I have for the last 30 years & wouldn't still be going if it didn't give me the buzz it still does. Each to their own I guess.

The simple fact that we all know is they cannot fully sell out venues of more than 8-10,000. We know it, the band know it, the promoters know it, the venues know it, it is a fact of life.
In reality to sell the number of tickets they do is actually a very good position for a band who hasn't had a hit in 20 odd years and has only got one and a half (Andy) original(ish) members left to be in.
You really need to deal with this rather than banging on about everything to do with the current line up being shit, it's getting boring now!

Oh shut up to fuck. Hypocrite, yet you're there always defending them at the slightest thing "I think Francis looked decent tonight" "Shut up and leave Francis alone. Always saying bad things about him" Giving out to me for always banging on about how shit they are, even though I quite literally praised the majority of their output the other day and followed them all my life, until now. Give yourself a day off. You havent earned it but, you'd be giving my head peace Oh and correct me if I'm wrong but, it is shit. Simple fact

billybragg and therockdoctor are nothing but mouthpieces (amongst other things) for Quo.
Wouldn't be surprised if they get paid to plug the band. Well, it is common of the management to do so...
Though cold hard cash probably doesn't suppress their desires of sniffling around Porter's behind.

Though cold hard cash probably doesn't suppress their desires of sniffling around Porter's behind. That's a rather harsh accusation. Everyone feels differently about what's going on. You know I'm not keen at all, but the two gents mentioned have got no agenda apart from their personal opinion, which is fine. Doesn't mean we have to agree but neither does it warrant your comment mate. Hidden admin comment to Simon Porter - please send cheque to same address as before, thank you.
