Just back from the NIA and I'd forgotten that I had a ticket second row, centre stage. in fact the first 3 rows were allowed on the barrier so I was right at the front Rick's side.
I enjoyed it for what it is, they were on form and sounded good.
But I'm not sure I want to see this again unless they really shake things up or the FF tour again.
Rick is who keeps me going, he's just a machine I love him.....but feck me he looks his age with the weight loss....far too gaunt in the face.
The highlight for me was Gerdundula.....I really enjoyed that.....also Leon seemed to fit in better this year I thought.
I agree with a comment 4th chord made recently that he would be happy to see CQ again if they had a real overhaul of the set list.
With the back catalogue they have they really could and should alter the set much more.
I now fully understand why many on here who have been seeing them live for many many more years than I have moan so much about the set......I get it.
Shame it could be so much better.

I didn't see you, I was looking out for you. I enjoyed it better than I expected. I have never liked 'Creepin' but tonight it sounded different and much tighter and heavier. When Quo came on most of the ground floor were on their feet before they even started playing and stayed on their feet throughout. It was a very enthusiastic audience, more so than last year, and the band seemed to respond. Looking around from my vantage point I could see that it was a "Quo" crowd by the numbers wearing various Quo t-shirts and patches-adorned jackets. Having Wilko on before them set the pace and, although I would have enjoyed some changes in the set, what they gave us was worth the money in my opinion. There are many generations of Quo fans and they made two young lads near me very happy by both Francis and Rhino managing to acknowledge them as they came to our side of the stage. I haven't seen anyone mention the lighting on this tour but there was one clever effect when they left the stage before the encore. On the back of the stage the letters QUO were picked out in lights followed by O O O O in sequence, the Quo chant in lights. I will be going again next year if both they and myself are still around.

I want my live bands to sound raw and loose, not feckin' tight....

Yes Ann I agree the crowd did appear more enthusiastic.....The NIA is so much better than the NEC with the curtain getting closer to the stage every year. One thing that did annoy me was when Francis said "This place is so much better than the place we played last year.....we can see you here". He seems to have forgotten they played the NIA last year and he said the exact same thing then. They were on form, they did sound good, Rick's voice is so much better now even if he is a walking skeleton.....and the band as a whole seemed to really enjoy it. I really enjoyed Gerdundula and the encore, and I enjoyed the gig as a whole but I really want to hear some different songs.....I hope they change but I doubt they will. I was stood in a great place, Rick was only about 4 feet from me....he is awesome. He was my hero as a kid and 40 years on he is still going strong. I'm sure I'll go again but I want change.

I felt similar the last time I saw them. Was right at the stage at Rick. Hard not to enjoy that but it's so frustrating knowing how much more exciting they could make the shows.
They probably need to get rid of the new bass player and bring back Alan.......

Great to hear your reviews Colin and Ann and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm still not sure whether I'll go next week, I saw them at Lechlade and Aqostic at the Albert Hall, so that may be enough this year.... Can't really get up any enthusiasm to go but if they dropped creepin, oriental and rock and roll music and put in something not played much before I would definitely go. Of course if it was another reunion tour, I would be there for as many nights as possible, whatever the setlist!
Are they they still doing the panto drum kicking thing with Gerdundula? Why can't they just play it straight ffs.
By the way, how was Wilko?

Reading so many of these reports only adds to the unlikeliness there will ever be changes. Playing a predictable set with the same songs, or ones I am indifferent to, 'better' and 'heavier', is no incentive whatsoever for me to pay money. Not that I could afford it this December anyway.
However clearly from reports coming in, there are plenty who do think it is great, and, as stated yesterday, being so happy they cannot be members of this message board.
The only way to get to see a proper CQ catalogue representation is a Francis solo tour, instead of the 1% composite of 30 yrs music advertised in CQ shows.
I'm firmly in the queue for the Derry Quo dream.

Gerdundula was very good actually although the mainly casual punters around us did not get it and some were sitting down and playing with their phones ! Good point about dropping Rock and Roll music too (as tired as The Oriental, BOTE and CUOY)....it was my cue to make a hasty retreat to the car.

It becomes subjective to personal taste obviously when discussing the massive raft of songs that CQ *could* play - but just by way of example, ISOTFC is one of my personal favourite CQ albums. However, with only BOTE semi permanently representing it, it is abysmally represented. Taking other especially liked albums by me, aside from the popular HT, such as RYTD and UTI - where is any representation there?. In fact there is virtually zilch representation of most of the CQ albums since 1986.
The only album that has, through the years, been represented decently is HT - and here we are now tediously stuck with The Oriental and CUOY when there are other songs like HT, B&R, JSD ete etc easily available to play.
CQ and their management state that this band is a representation of Status Quo from beginning to end. In truth it plays a larger percentage of songs (mostly hits) copied over from the original band that outweighs not only the number of CQ songs that are in the set, but also manages to barely scrape the surface of any music they have themselves actually recorded !
I wish that one or other of band and/or management could come on here and explain how that works ??

Wilko was good.....Norman Watt Roy is an animal. One of the best bass players in the world. Superb mate.....I saw them on the reunion tour but this time I was right at the front. Although Wilko was right in front of me I couldn't take my eyes off Watt Roy....just brilliant.

What sort of reception did Wilko get from the CQ crowd?
I wonder if he noticed a difference from his last outing with Quo. I have never seen a reaction to, or an auditorium so full for, a support act like at Hammersmith last year.
