Quite simply, there are no excuses for the inertia of current Quo's set list. Having read FR's comments in the latest fan club magazine it is clear that very little time is devoted to rehearsal and very little thought is given to fans who surely want more than the token changes on offer this year. Francis says the band aren't lazy. If that's true then they are unimaginative and uncreative to put it mildly.
The idea that tracks like BOTE and Oriental are essential and more worthy of a fixed place in the set than a bona fide classic like DWMT is nonsense. I feel for those fans who go each year optimistically anticipating just a couple of genuine surprises but they never get them. Same old, same old churned out in the same order. I wouldn't watch this incarnation of Quo with this set list if they were playing for free in my local.

Are they playing The Oriental? I loathe that song, it just sucks. And I love a lot more of their output than many long-term fans, but I don't get that song at all.

When Heavy Traffic came out, they played 4 songs from it: the title track, Solid Gold, All Stand Up and Creepin Up On You.
There was a lot of love for The Oriental around this time, on the message board, and we had a vote to say that we would love Quo to play it on the Riffs tour in 2003. Lo and behold, our dreams came true and they played it, as well as Creepin, and All Stand Up. They dropped Heavy Traffic and Solid Gold at this point.
For several years they continued to play All Stand Up and I got really really fed up with it. And the fact that they are still playing Oriental and Creepin, for 12 consecutive years now, is beyond a joke.
When they dropped Don't Waste My Time, I was absolutely gobsmacked. I shouted out for it for a couple of years, but then I just thought, 'what's the point?' and accepted whatever they wanted to play. But I've had enough now.
I used to 'moan' on the old message board about the set list, but that was only because I cared. I don't care anymore, sadly.

They could play Slow train-mystery song-over and done-I saw the light-Daughter etc- and I still wouldn't go , no Alan or John NO status quo . Sorry if I upset the Freddie fans but that's the way it is . They play what the casual fans want to hear unlike the reunion tours .

CQ fans are casual fans.....and seem to enjoy a mediocre version of what once was a great live rock band.

So frustrating isn't it? Yes, I'd much rather see Alan and John, but if the set mixed things up, threw in a few surprises, I'd still go see them. Sigh.

Song is ok, there are many like creepin', bote', rain..borin stuff nowadays. I love rockin all over, down down and so on, but yes like to hear dirty water, i saw the light, maybe few killer tracks from NTL, but it never happens. Rossi's solo band tour maybe someday...

I've been thinking about what Francis says about "the flow"
He could be replace Wanderer with Mess of blues (both covers, both hits, similar tempo, wouldn't change the flow)
Replace Sybil with ole rag blues ( one hit for another, both featuring dual vocals , both a similar tempo)
I could go on. Not changing 4 songs at least every couple of years is just lazy. Even the most loyal fans are exasperated with the set
With significant numbers (it would seem ) staying away or going less, I can't believe it isn't effecting the atmosphere

Hand on heart, some people go on about the "Glasgow Apollo balcony bouncing," well I've been on the balcony in Manchester Apollo for CQ and it fucking bounced to the point where I shat myself. And this happened on a regular basis between 2000 and 2005. Now, while I know it's hard to judge by a simple recording on Youtube and I appreciate that, go look at some of the videos from Blackpool. The atmosphere is very much like a bingo hall. No one cares anymore it seems. And rightly so. They've been pissed about too often by Rossi and friends. The only people who do care are the pissed up wankers, who do that stupid hip dance to Rocking All Over The World.

Its not true at all that all fans who have appreciated CQ are casual fans who will accept mediocre versions of the originals. Quite the opposite.
Its not just about set list changes per se for me anymore. I also frankly don't want CQ to play any FF songs. What I want is for them to represent their back catalogue properly and not the woeful stuck record tiny minority of songs which now blight the set with their insanely boring and predictable permanency.
I am resigned to the fact this will never happen. It is also probably too much to expect that the FF will return and show how to do their songs in the superb manner that fits them.
One less than satisfied Quo fan.

If I ever see them live, I would love to hear them play the songs they actually recorded as a foursome, Cage being the exception.
