Back in the 70s, when most you guys were going to Status Quo concerts, when Quo were in their prime, many of us on the other side of the Atlantic were attending RUSH concerts.
RUSH toured the midwest U.S.A. (and other regions) almost non-stop it seems, and built their following through that incessent touring, through hard work, one fan at a time. Total integrity was/is RUSH. The type of band you are proud to be a fan of. They never compromised their integrity, they always stayed true to who they were, regardless of record company pressure, or any other type of pressure.
It was always a huge treat when they came around, not least because we got to see them play this classic from their first álbum:

Nice one mate, always been one of my main bands, especially the 70's/early 80's stuff, truly untouchable virtuosos.

Yeah, me too Jamie, I love the band for what they did through "Hemispheres" (their first 6 studio albums). That was for me their period of greatness.

Saw Rush at the Queen's Hall in Leeds back in 1980, proper musos with total mastery of their chosen instruments.

My First gig was Farewell to Kings at Newcastle City Hall. Love Working Man. Lost interest towards the end - didn't like the sound of the last few albums. Still one of my faves, though.

One of the shows I saw was in 1977 when technically they were still touring 2112, A Farewell to Kings was a month or 2 from being released. Well they played "Xanadu" as a tease, and of course I´d never heard it, but I knew right away it was a masterpiece. I´d still to this day say it is their 2nd best piece (behind 2112).
This is a relatively recent live versión, very high quality, showing their live playing today is even better than back in the day.
So so great:

Must have been a tough act to follow for Rush! Rush at that time was only a 2 album band with a new drummer,.... albeit for me the best drummer in the rock & roll world.

The Exit Stage Left album disappointed me - it didn't show Rush live in their best light - especially after All The World's a Stage. I hate live albums with gaps between the songs - ruins the whole point of them. And Rush used to play Xanadu slower live than in the studio - never known of another band that plays live slower than in the studio. Different Stages restored the balance, tho'. That was brilliant!
I remember when they came back to the UK a few years ago for the first time in 14(?) years. Brilliant! [for those not in the know, they couldn't get a gig over here - the promoters said that there was little interest - when they did come back they sold out arenas! Anyone want to suggest reasons why the music scene is in the state it is?]

Oh! Not a thread about The Sheepdogs after all - & I was just about to agree with the thread title after seeing them the other night, nevermind.

Yeah, Clockwork Angels has all the musical brilliance buried in a wall of mud. The R40 live versions are superb, though, and really show the class of these songs and how much was lost in the bad production/mix of the studio album. Waiting for a remix... However, Xanadu really does sound tired and worn out on ESL. The live version from 1978 (the 3rd CD of Different Stages) is much better - and then there's Cygnus X-1 on that one...

Great band, seen them 3 times in recent years when they been to Glasgow SECC. Not really into proggy stuff but went with a mate who is and is a massive Rush fan. First time I saw them was amazed about how good they were live.
Working Man is brilliant.
Also, must be one of the few older bands that still has the same line up from back in the 70s.
Some bands do not have that option due to ill health etc, what an opportunity missed by Quo (2013-14 tours aside).

No lineup change but a musical one, and you see the same kind of conflicts as you see here...
