Just got back from the Diamond. Fab day as usual
We got there early as i had asked Mikey if i could play ASSW on drums during soundcheck. It was a great experience and it was a nice kit too. So a lot of chatting to people from Minehead before Jimmy and Mikey did their acoustic set full of quo rarities such as. Nothing At All and Lakky Lady. A few other songs, Ace of Spades being a highlight. Spare Parts next who never disappoint with their mix of rock covers and quo songs. My personal favourites were Get Back In Line by Motörhead and Hush by ZZ Top. There were some real quo rarities such as Making Waves and Burt Bacharach which were well received. Jackie Lynton next who as well as being a great vocalist (to say he's 76), he's also a great bloke who has time for everyone. Very much enjoyed his bluesy version of Don't Waste My Time which always goes down a storm. Rock N Roll Whiskey Blues is a good one too. We got a verse of The Hedgehog Song out of him which was great! Before Backwater came on, i heard a lot of people saying how good they are. They were definitely right, easily one of the best tributes i've ever seen. A great mix of Quo hits and album tracks, Lonely Man and Softer Ride being personal highlights. 4500 times was fantastic, seemed to go on forever! Finally, Stated Quo. what i like most about stated quo is that they don't try to look like the band or copy them, they focus on delivering a great set full of songs that you wouldn't expect to be played such as The Wild Ones, Don't Stop Me Now and 'shed' (SGOIMH). During the set Alan handed over his sticks to me and let me play ASSW again with them which was totally unexpected and great fun. A very long version of IIRM/GGH was greatly received and certainly got the air guitars out! A great day/night was had by all and i'm sure there are many more Diamond Days to come.

What a fabulous review Charlie, I really wish I'd been there. It was great that you got to play with Stated, that was really nice of them. I completely agree that one of the best things about them is that they play more obscure tracks and don't try to look like the band. I'm so glad Mikey was ok to play. Backwater and Spare Parts sounded good too from your description. I'll definitely have to look out for them. Were there many there from Minehead? Sounds like you all had a brilliant day. Hopefully I can go another time!

Just got back from the Diamond. Fab day as usual Hush by ZZ Top. Great read, it must have been a brilliant day. Hush is one of my favourites, by Deep Purple. Tush is equally dazzling, it's from ZZ Top; which one was played?

Charlie's post was well written (clever sod ).
On a personal note I'd just like to say it was great to meet a couple of people from the mb. Had a beer with Mikey afterwards . Top Man ! And had a chat & laugh with Jackie at breakfast next morning ! Should be prime minister that guy !!

Your playing was exceptional on April Spring Summer & Wed's Charley, all of us in Backwater were stunned to find out just how long you have been playing. Superb skill, timing and J.C's fills contributed to the song. There aren't enough superlatives to describe what you did last night. The future looks bright for you young man! Well done, and we'd love to have you play with Backwater some day! quojc

I listen to the frantic four CDs a lot so take influence from them more than the album version. I would also love to play with Backwater. Your versions of BFM and 4500x were the best i've heard. Thanks for the drum stick!

Another from The Diamond, this time Backwater doing Little Lady and the stunning Lonely Man. Rendered for 5.1 surround sound.
