One of the issues I had was the use of slide guitar throughout. I've personally never been keen on Francis's slide work. Assuming it's him here of course.
It's why I don't like Darlin' and I Don't Know in particular. To me, the guitar sounds off. I know it isn't, but it grates on me.
I really don't know the full story behind the album but it turned out to be everything that part of the 90's wasn't. There are tracks on it I do like though; Blue Water, Someone Show Me Home, Isaac Ryan and The Fighter. The arrangements of those songs is so much better than the rest and stand out for me.
To be fair, though, it was a complete departure from Quo. Unlike One Step At A Time I would say, which was a sort of mirror version.

It's weird really cause ok the bias in me comes out very often, but at the time I didn't think it was that bad, parts of me was just thinking we'll ok it's not Quo, so it's not living up to anything or trying to be. Its fascinating that we all love different things about Quo or in this case Francis, but my song stuck on repeat at the time was Happy Town, it has a Rossi/Frost feel about it. Looking back Quo got away with simular sounding tracks and they became hits for Quo so it becomes hard to critisize things. Marguerita, fancy a drink 😉 The one song I know a lot won't agree on here, but I do think the big hit that got away from Quo as in using the name Status Quo was Modern Romance, the Rossi/Frost single would have been top ten or probably number 1 under the band name, it's even better than Marguerita Time. I know people that adore Modern Romance and bought the single, I think that is the song that got away.
