Twenty five years ago UTI was released.
It was a shame it didn’t chart higher but at this period Quo were finding it hard getting airplay.
It’s not perfect but for me there was lots to like after the disappointment of Thirsty Work and although i liked Don’t Stop UTI felt like a proper Quo album.
It’s a shame that Driving To Glory and Obstruction Day were recorded after the event as their inclusion would have elevated an already decent album.
If i had to swap around , my tracklist would have been:
Twenty Wild Horses Under the Influence Round and Round Shine On Sea Cruise Little White Lies Keep Em Coming Obstruction Day The Way It Goes Driving To Glory
Bizarrely, and i’m in the minority, Shine On bores me until the middle then it just grooves so beautifully.
What are folk’s thoughts?

Great album, didn't get the recognition it deserved at the time.

Great album until the last two tracks, both poor efforts

Sea Cruise, god that track makes my eyeballs itch. Dreadful stuff. The 3 most played tracks, according to Apple Music, are UTI and Blessed are the Meek (nice wee tune, but not really classic Quo), and the execrable Way it Goes! Fraid I just find it all a really boring listen, lacking any real atmosphere, if that's the right word. Lightweight at best. Sorry. Still, 25 years old. Blimey. I weep for the lost Quo years...

Quo were such a frustrating band to follow. The cool fork cover, replaced with the tacky stunt cover. Didn't like little white lies or the way it goes (2 out of 3 singles). I couldn't understand why keep em coming wasn't the single - still a great track. 3 or 4 spirited "quo lite" enjoyable efforts, and a few dodgy moments. And yeah, great groove on Shine On

Underrated in my opinion but fell by the wayside a bit commercially. It was big step in the direction the band should have been at and Some really strong tracks and it all flows really well, wish the pub sign sleeve had been the bendy fork picture as originally intended. Another David Walker misstep there.

This is one of the better Quo albums from their latter period, I prefer it a lot more than Heavy Traffic, having said that, Not Fade Away is terrible.

Definitely Jeff’s best album regarding the drum sound.

Quo on the cheap. A cheap cover. Cheap marketing. Cheap record label and cheap video.
Also the Vanessa tv appearance in front of the fans reminded me of The Island of doctor Moreau.
That said it’s a necessary album in the bands canon. They plugged the guitars in for the first time since RTYD and wrote mostly their own stuff. Although why Not fade away is on there is anyone’s guess. For some reason it all feels a bit like cosplay quo. Maybe they were trying to refind their feet
A middling effort that still lacks the confidence and groove of Heavy traffic.

Still like this album today except Roll The Dice and Not Fade Away, but like the rest. Luv 20 Wild Horses, heard them play it at 2000 Famous At The Last Century Tour here in Oz. Great album.

A massive step in the right direction.
Not Fade Away was recorded for a Mike Batt (of Wombles fame) orchestral project call Philharmania, which was orchestrated, the version on UTI was stripped back.
Overall, not amongst the greatest Quo, but it was a light at the end of a very long tunnel.

As already said, a step in the right direction after years of nonsense with a ridiculously short live album, which did not represent the live act at all, Thirsty Work, the Man Utd singles, a so-so Francis solo album, Don't Stop and yet another compilation . I guess Sea Cruise could have been left over from covers album. No idea. Shine On, seeing you mentioned , is bona fide Quo classic for me. A brooding Rick Parfitt intro followed by a blistering riff and a nerve tingling solo. When I first heard it, I immediately thought, now we're getting somewhere at long last! It has presence; it has atmosphere. It's definitely one of the Quo's I want to hear. And, let's face it, there are a few I also wish they'd stuck with the bent spoon like they eventually did with the remaster but David Walker had his ways. Back in the late 90's, it was probably called dumbing down. And he'd have loved that. Of course, it also had another sleeve for a while; this one. The album was a half decent indication of what was to come. But 25 years? Scary

The album was a half decent indication of what was to come. But 25 years? Scary Which puts it half way between the Quo album and now, in more ways than one.
