Ok so we have all pretty much heard the John Eden Remix of Rockin' All Over The World album. Whether we prefer it to the original mix is another question.
But my question, is there another Quo album that you feel would benefit a new mix? And which one and why?
Mine would be Perfect Remedy. Shock horror I know, but I do feel the songs are let down by an awful flat production, and I would love to hear it in a different light, with guitars up in the mix, rather than hardly heard.
Close second would be If you cant stand the heat. There are songs on there that could benefit from a different mix.
Any thoughts?

For me it would be NTL. It’s such a fantastic album and easily in my top 3. But a simple remix to bring the vocals on some tracks more to the forefront and it would be an even more fantastic album imo.

I thought that the John Eden remix was very interesting, but ultimately highlighted that if it ain't on tape you can't remix it in. Consequently, he couldn't put the missing oooomph back into the songs. So, I suspect the same would be true of other albums. However, if they were to try it at all, then my picks would be If You Can't Stand The Heat & Never Too Late. Although I don't think you could get a truly satisfactory result for any of the three albums unless you got the musicians back into the studio, & that clearly cannot happen now.

For me the obvious one is, If You Can't Stand The Heat, take all the bells and whistles off and see how a striped down version sounds.

Both of those already mentioned , Heat and NTL. Although the Heat could do with culling a couple as you cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

I'm not sure I'd choose any if I'm honest. Rockin' needed it because of the sound and condensing issues. Or is it compressing? Not sure. I'm no sonic expert. Whichever. Anyway, all of the other albums have not had the same issues. If you were to hold a gun to my head (and please don't ) I'd maybe plump for Rock 'til You Drop which I have never thought sounded as good as most people say it does. Don't get me wrong, it's a terrific album. I just think it sounds a little flat.

For a “modern” album, Heavy Traffic always sounded flat and dull to me.

While I'm a big John Eden fan (I have bought stuff based on him producing it!), it doesn't have to be John. The remix of Deep Purple's Machine Head by Dweezil Zappa sounds like it's going to be amazing! So I'd have him in a flash! Here's a really interesting video - It's only 5 mins if you stop before hey do the box openning:

Tommy, Fakin' the Blues, the covers of their own stuff, Bring it on Home (in the club style)........these, sadly, were not good songs. 🙁

For example during One Man Band the rhythm guitar is really clear when Francis goes into the lead break. And the shuffle in 4500 Times before the last singing is immense. So much better than the original, in my opinion 😊

Don't get me wrong, it's a terrific album. I just think it sounds a little flat. For me on RTYD it wasn't so much about the production. It's miles better than some of the production on Quo albums. It was more about the song choices. RTYD came out at a time fans were craving a real decent album after what was a disappointing Perfect remedy album. Not just a decent album but an album packed with originals, something that would restore faith in the band. But in a way RTYD was a bit of a disappointment, because it was half covers and half originals, or maybe 70% originals 30% covers, and I wasn't that keen on what was being covered either at the time, and very strange why they covered their own Tommy's in love and changed the name to Tommy, and re-recorded The price of love, it just came across as half baked, half commercial and half trying to please fans. But at the time it was insulting to fans intelligence. I understand not all this is the bands fault, they we're under pressure to completely sell out and do a complete covers album, but the band resisted. But at the time it wasent the turn around fans were hoping for. Of course the full cover album wasn't too far down the road. But cover albums were a fixing plaster to sell records just to keep the record company happy, but it dug Quo into a bigger hole each time, and albums of original material seemed to not excite sales anymore. Its a shame because there was plenty of good songs of original material recorded for the RTYD album, it could have been so much better.

Knowing that my go-to for the Ramones albums are the new remixs since they exist, even thinking "Why they are going to release such things, they sound good"...And oh boy, I love those remix, all the Quo albums would be interesing of hearing (yes, even from 71 to 76).
But, maybe Never Too Late, as the vocals sound to me very from the distance. Maybe I would include Perfect Remedy and Heavy Traffic.
