to play behind The Iron Curtain. Budapest. Summer 1986.
But Quo played there months before in April...
Why is Queen giving the accolade?

Neither were first. That accolade belongs to the Beach Boys (Prague, 1968)

Didn't Queen release a video or something of this? Maybe the marketing people are just latching on to that. Like marketing people do.

And I am sure that Queen will want to claim the accolade of being the first 'Western' act to play Sun City, in South Africa, during the Apartheid Years.

Iron Maiden in Poland in 1984 I was here to said the same thing. I'm starting to hate Queen because of everything, they are in everywhere. I wasn't born when Phil Collins was in every second TV or radio fortunately, but nowadays is Freddie and the boys.

Last Friday was obviously Queen night on BBC 4. For whatever reason. They showed the 'legendary' 1975 concert from Hammersmith Odeon. It wasn't legendary of course. It's just because the BBC happened to broadcast it on Christmas Eve. Nevertheless, it was a very good watch/listen. I was mad on Queen back then and I remember watching it when it went out live. Queen back then were a bl00dy good heavy rock band and the set included marvellous songs like March Of The Black Queen, Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock and Liar. However, there was then a documentary afterwards called (something like) "Freddie Mercury in 10 Photographs". I actually found it quite interesting. And it perhaps explained to me possibly why myself and Queen parted company. From about 1975 to 1979, Freddie frequented the New York gay club scene where, for the first time in his adult life, he felt very comfortable. He came back one time in 1979 and his hair was short and he had donned the leather trousers and cap and had grown that moustache. As it said in the programme, it was all very Village People. But, more importantly, I think the effect on the music was profound. Out went Ogre Battle and in came Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Play The Game. I never really went back to them. Anyway, just musing while we're on the subject

I followed Queen in the seventies and remember the set list full was of all those great tracks from Queen 1, Queen 2 & Sheer Heart Attack. Bo Rhap was an interesting track and they really made it work well live but from about '76 the output changed. For me, it became too light and over commercial. I went to see them at Knebworth in '86, largely because Quo and Big Country were on the bill too, but I came away massively disappointed in their live set.........very Village People!

Exactly the same for me. Queen, Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack were three brilliant albums. But A Night At The Opera demonstrated signs that they were changing their musical direction and songs like Somebody To Love and We Are The Champions eventually confirmed it. Huge sellers to be fair. Just not for me. But that was my issue. Queen went stratospheric. I just never went with them. I actually saw them live at the Edinburgh Festival in 1976 - the only time I ever saw them - and it was OK. But no more than that.

Yes, Mortified, I think we both saw what was happening around the same time. I hung on for another couple of albums but Queen the rock band was over.
