Listening to In The Army Now off the recent Quoing in the 90s compilation on Amazon Musuc, and the lyrics are Changed!! Anybody know the story behind this??? From Wikipedia:
"In September 2010, Status Quo released a new version of the song with the Corps of Army Choir through their label Universal/UMC as a special release. The lyrics were changed to a pro-soldier version.[7] All profits from this updated version are donated equally to the British Forces Foundation and Help for Heroes charities. This charted at no. 31 in the UK Singles charts upon its release."

To add onto this, earmusic don't have the rights to the original version of In the Army Now from 1986, but they do have the rights to the 2010 remake. Otherwise, they could've put a live version on, but that would've kinda defeated the point of a 2000s compilation (which the Don't Stop tracks do, but oh well).

The song is an anti war one I suppose the re recording was altered to make it a more positive in tribute to armed forces. Not sure what member came up with the alternative lyric though??

The lyrical volte-face always sat rather uncomfortably with me and while I have no qualms about a worthy charity receiving a few quid it struck me at the time of release as a rather cynical attempt at bandwagon-jumping.
Other opinions are available.

Other opinions are available. I felt the same. The original was a sort of pop at the armed forces and their recruitment policy of suggesting it was all fun. Learn a trade, see the world etc etc then the reality is it's " hand grenades flying over your head". I identified with that when I was younger. I haven't changed. The remake was very much pro-army and more or less the polar opposite. It's easy to be idealistic when you're not in the army and I fully take that one on the chin. But this was unquestionably an attempt to cash in on something when those who bought the original in their hundreds of thousands will have seen the message first time round tossed in the bin.
