Great cover this one.
All the sign posts to greatness are there, with a nice little nod to the Beatles 'I Want To Tell You' on the outro.
It could possible be the last recording with Roy Lynes, it has a sound closer to DOTH than MKGS to my ears, but Roys throbbing organ can heard (but not seen) in the background.
Just how good were Quo are the start of the seventies?

Didn’t realise it was a cover, always liked this wee tune👍 It was released by Spirit in 1969 on their album Clear Spirit, as 'So Little Time To Fly'.

Never understand why this never made it onto ma kelly or Dog of two head or even a b side? Maybe copyright reasons? The outro like many people have pointed out is the same as the intro to Beatles- I want to tell you but not sure if this was one of those musical accidents regarding similarities??

Yep agree it’s a great recording Quo did. Recording Seems like it was tried out but disregarded after take 1. And to me that’s the beauty of it. Simple and atmospheric but with groove. I’ve said it before so sorry for repeating myself but when Francis sings in that way it’s always a winner for me. The harmonies work as well. Yep nice little number.

An odd track to cover and maybe that was part of the problem. Spirit were fairly well known at the time and I suppose there could have been a royalties issue. Only guessing mind.
I think when it first seen the light of day on the Fresh Quota 10" mini-album, the writing was credited to Alan Lancaster. Which was clearly a mistake. Although I admit I had no idea at the time. It just stood out as an excellent newly discovered old Quo song.
It does come across as slightly more of a demo than the finished article but it's still very good. The Beatles add-on is also a strange thing to do.
This, along with Shifting Sand are absolute gems that I wish they'd polished off and done properly. Quo between 1970 and 1972 were a hugely talented and underrated band. Nothing changed when they became popular in that respect.

If they'd fully gone into The Beatles' I Want To Tell You and sung a verse or two after the riff, it would've worked really well!
