Spud's recordings of SQ songs such as 'Perfect Remedy?' Is he drumming over the other tracks in place of whoever the original drummer was?

Um... well I'm no expert [or all that big a fan, to be honest!] on post-AL Quo, but I'm not aware that JC ever played PR - and I'd be astounded if he actually did, so that may be behind the wall of silence here!!

I've looked this up and found this track on Youtube. And the album, John Coghlan Performs Status Quo's Greatest Hits is on a number of streaming platforms. But is it an actual album? Or has someone put these tracks together, not realising that John left Quo before this track in 1989. On Apple Music the album is copyright to 2014 Timeless. Clearly not Quo fans because there are other tracks that John didn't play on such as Overdose. I've listened to this track and the original and it's clearly the same track. No over dubs. It doesn't appear on John's official website or his discogs page. www.discogs.com/artist/861984-John-CoghlanSome one is making money off these Quo tracks but I this album looks bogus to me. This is from Apple music to show the company who produced this album.

John didn't play on Perfect Remedy, which is maybe why no one answered. I don't think he even covered it, either with State of Quo or John Coghlan's Quo. I just thought the question was a mistake. But if someone out there knows of a version where Spud contributes the drumming in a studio recording, please enlighten us

Only this odd compilation made by a record label I can't identify. It doesn't appear on any official listings for Quo records. To be fair to John, he does cover In the Army in his current Jazzed up Quo live set. But from memory, that is the only post 81 Quo track he covers. I'd never heard Perfect Remedy before and I cannot imagine him covering it.

Thanks everybody. If you listen to all of the tracks on that album, some are clearly not Quo doing them. You folks might be able to tell if its Spud's Quo or somebody else, but they are clearly being sold as belonging to JC's Quo on Amazon. And from experience I can tell you they will yank something down at the first hint of copyright infringement.

This is a truly bizarre compilation. Across the album, there are 18 Quo original recordings, including Perfect Remedy along with many others, and 18 tracks recorded by JC in Italy in 2001 with the lads from the then incarnation of State of Quo. I don't know the full back story, but briefly, JC along with Paul Carr, Mike Grady and Graham Peters from SoQ, ended up recording at least twenty tracks in these Italian sessions. The record company released these twenty tracks - in Italy - across two CDs in 2001. There were twelve tracks on each CD, with four tracks appearing on both CDs. www.discogs.com/release/6732198-John-Coghlan-The-Best-Of-Status-Quo-Performed-By-The-Original-Member-John-Coghlan-www.discogs.com/release/13349438-John-Coghlan-John-Coghlan-Performs-The-Best-Songs-Of-Status-QuoAs I recall from SoQ band member comments on the old official MB at the time, they were not altogether happy with at least some of the final versions, but I must say that the recordings have held up pretty well over the years. Fast forward fifteen years or so and all but two of these twenty tracks are then bundled with a bunch of Quo originals and released on all the streaming platforms. There are around half a dozen different streaming 'albums' available, all released around 2014 or 2015. There are very slight variations between the track listings on each of the albums and very slight variations in the title, though all are based around a theme of 'John Coghlan performs Status Quo Greatest Hits'. And just a final nod to the incompetence / disinterest of whoever assembled these albums. The two tracks from the twenty recordings released from the Italian sessions in 2001 that are not included on these more recent streaming albums are Down Down and RAOTW. However, Quo's original recordings of both these tracks are included. Pretty special work this.

Fascinating stuff, peterprog 👍 That must have taken a bit of digging! I've got a State of Quo CD from way back called The Best of Status Quo. Can't remember when I bought it. Presumably it contains tracks from these Italian sessions but it isn't either of those you've provided a link for. This is the cover artwork: I also have a recording of Something 'Bout You Baby I Like which was given away with some newspaper Sunday supplement back in the 2000's which a mate gave me at work. It's listed as Quo but clearly isn't. Sounds like Mikey singing to me. I'd never seen it anywhere else but I notice it's on that second link you provided. All very obscure stuff.

Cheers Mortified Yes, a year after the Italian releases in 2001, fifteen of the twenty tracks from the Italian recording session were released in Germany on this CD that you mention: www.discogs.com/release/4956746-John-Coghlan-The-Best-Of-Status-QuoThey had their work cut out to fit fifteen tracks in though, chopping a lazy six minutes plus from Roadhouse versus the original release and recording. I really hope JC and the SoQ guys made some money out of these releases - not to mention the later streaming compilations - but I wouldn't be all that confident!

Thanks everybody. I knew they were bizarre, but my history with the band didn't go back far enough to figure it out.
