Rare Rossi/Parfitt song and B-side to 1986 single Rollin Home. Remember turning over the A-side to listen to Lonely and was blown away by this fantastic shuffle. It could easily have replaced a few of the tracks on the album. One of their best later period B-sides and still play it regularly to this day.

Agree with Quodec , and this was one of those songs that kept me interested , the fact it was not on the album as mentioned above , blows my mind .

Didn't think much of Rollin Home. A newish sound but very run of the mill song. The video of them prancing around the desert didn't help with their so called 'new look'. Insert 'vomit' emoji.
However, I really liked the B side with Lonely and Keep Me Guessing. It was new and fresh but still had that Quo sound, albeit modern and polished. I didn't mind that actually. Still much better than Back to Back. But of course my enthusiasm was quashed when Army came out when both tracks were not to be found. What a pile of crap that album was and what a disappointment the new Quo was and remained so for decades!

Always loved it but it always reminded me of The Eagles' Heartache Tonight, even back then.
Nice, languid shuffle. Less fussy and less multi-layered than the tracks that were on the album. As was Keep Me Guessing. Did Pip produce these B-sides? Can't remember. But they do seem different in approach than things like, say, Calling.

Does nothing for me, Quo-by-numbers with a crappy drum sound. 🫣

I imagine this was one of the tracks recorded quite early on when the new line up got together in late 1985 or so. It sounds vastly different to the production and style of what was released on the album. Keep me guessing originated from the same time(As did Rock n roll floorboards I think?)but always thought that was some kind of leftover from Rick’s solo project as it seems just Rick and pip here plus whatever session musicians they used. Lonely has always been one of my favourite Quo flip sides and was good enough for an album. A rare Rossi/parfitt track too and builds up nicely.

Both from Rock's solo album and therefore produced by Pip. There's a better album to be had based on the singles from the Army album plus the b-sides rather than the album tracks (with the possible exception of Overdose).

Hmmm dunno , not sure. I agree with Gerh with the drumming. The extended outro is dull and I got bored with it after a shortwhile . It did start ok though, maybe a shorter version or different ending ?

Yeah always liked this one, it just works & is a nice song. All about the guitars & not other sounds getting in the way. Maybe it got rejected for the Status Quo album as it sounded too much like Status Quo, at the time! I guess what would you say, only Rollin Home from the Army album has that instant Quo vibe? I understand the 'Quo by numbers' comment from above, but that probably gives it a 'could slot in on any Quo album & work' kind of quality & groove that many are seeking from Quo anyway.

I'd be intetested to know when this was written. Unusual to get a Rossi/Parfitt collaboration. Was it written around the same time as Save Me? Were they short of songs for the Army album? And as they were the trusted songwriters at the time they needed a new album, cobbled these songs together, together?

Lonely isn't a Rick solo recording I really should check my facts before posting!!! Lonely Nights was on Rick's solo album.... unless, of course, you know better!
