Great Article of the Frantic Four approaching their peak (and Quo's 1972-76 Peak) I've always loved Hello! But personally speaking (maybe it was just 'the way' back then) the production could have been more 'In your Face' (As in 'Piledriver' terms) it's always sounded somewhat 'suppressed' to me in places, perhaps I've never played it loud enough then...The actual Songs are magical still 50 years later

Agree with you about the sound. I reserve it for the car so it can go stupidly loud. At volume, it sounds incredible I think OTL has the best sound

Just bought a copy. At last, a front cover. And an article on the greatest album ever made* I'll sit and digest it in a bit. I know the image on the front of Piledriver is iconic but Hello! is equally if not more so. And Quo. Dug to Quo. What a classic collection of album covers. And not a Roger Dean in sight (* to these ears)

Had Francis said what Andy said, i can only imagine the flak which would have come his way from all directions. It perhaps throws light on Francis thinking that 2016 should have been the last electric shows “We carried Rick for a year. He was on a lot of medication and wasn’t in a good place “ Sounds to me that Francis was trying to look after both Rick and the future of the band. Also shows what a trouper Rick was on stage that he could still give it his all despite not being 100 per cent Well, Andy never said it was good or bad. He just said Francis thought they were shit. People are blindsided by Francis' word on here and then go along with what he said. I know people on here who loved it at the time and then, once Francis said it, they started changing their opinion. I'm a musician of 20 years and it my ears, musically, it wasn't "all over the place" and once Francis said John kept slowing the songs down, people hopped on it and there are posts on here and on YT of people saying the songs were too slow. Utter bullshit. John slowed down on some songs on the first tour, but you'd really need to be listening to hear it and it was hardly noticeable to 95% of those who were there. Alan, he was an ill man. He dropped his plec a few times and recovered and never missed a beat, apart from the JW on the opening night in 2013. Ridiculously harsh and a dickhead move to throw that at him. Francis played incredibly but fucked up once or twice. Rick was perfect. Then, you throw into the mix that Alan and John had to use in ear monitors, which they'd never done before. It takes a musician awhile to get used to them in my experience, especially after being used to monitors on the floor for so many years. I genuinely do believe Francis was pissed at the success of them and he didnt want to go back to given control and having a democracy. Which is fair enough. He was and is in charge of the band since 1986. Health issues aside, the PR reason given for not keeping it going is utter bullshit. "Diminishing returns" my left foot! If that's the case, fold the other band then

Also shows what a trouper Rick was on stage that he could still give it his all despite not being 100 per cent Well I saw his quotes that towed the company line about Rick carrying the reunions and John & Alan not being able to play, and just shook my head. Those gigs had a magic in the rhythm section that I'd never experienced at a Quo gig before, having first seen them in 1992. My CD of the Glasgow gig, bought at the venue in the night, which I assume means no time for overdubs, sounds pretty immense in the drum and bass area, I still listen to it to this day. Maybe Andy and Francis need to look at from the other perspective. Why was Rick so apparently out wordly amazing on the reunion tour that he could supposedly carry the rhythm section, but didn't play to such a level with the other Quo?

Just out of interest do the original tapes still exist for Hello I’d make the beginning of 4500 times a bit louder ! The only bits I've seen, in the archives, to exist from Hello! are; Claudie (Take 1) Forty Five Hundred Times (Takes 1 - 7) And those are only on a 1/4" tape (apparently). Besides the PYE albums, the earliest multi masters for any album that exists in the Universal archives is Blue For You; Is There A Better Way / Rolling Home / Rain / Move In The Light (?) Blue For You / Mad About The Boy / That's A Fact / Gonna Ease Your Mind / Chat Bits / Ring Of Change Honky Tonk Angel / All Night / High Rise (?)

There was plans the other year to remix Piledriver for it's 50th Anniversary. The Marquee 28th November 1972 / Reading Festival 1973 shows were going to be bonus content. Non of the tapes could be found, for any of them. I think the only bits that exist of the Marquee show now are just the 2 tracks: Don't Waste My Time, and Paper Plane. Roadhouse Blues and Bye Bye Johnny might exist in whatever archives of the TV station that broadcast them in 1986. As far as I know, a lot of tapes went missing from the Phonogram / Universal archives at some point. How or why, I don't know

If that's the case, fold the other band then I wasn’t really meaning 13/14, it was more from what Andy said about Rick’s health for the last year ( 2015 into 2016)I’m guessing Francis was concerned about Rick and perhaps thought if they slowed it down with acoustic shows the band could continue and it would be less strain on Rick. I was shocked at how thin he was in 2015 at Queen of the South. It wasn’t just a guy on s fitness kick- he didn’t look well. As ever though, he was great

The B-side of Wild Side Of Life? Until I saw Ring Of Change B-Side of Rain was You Lost The Love. Brain is befuddled, official. That being said, nothing fits High Rise or All Night. There may be an early version of Ring Of A Change called Move In The Light, that does seem logical. But no Mystery Song on the list, I wonder what the working title for that one was?
