Played this album today, reliving my youth. you know what I noticed..............this is when Rossi gave up on guitar solos. Barely a solo on the whole album. Yet a year earlier he let rip on NTL.

the whole album sounds rather like they'd all given up, imo

I like Doesn't matter. IMO I love rock 'n'roll is a much weaker track, in fact to me it's even even weaker than Jealousy.

Hate it, except for Dear John
Sounds like a band that's done. B2B at least had Ol Rag Blues, TCTTG and NC. Your Kind Of Love is far better than ILRNR too, IMO

At the time, the album was OK. Not as good as it's immediate predecessors but I didn't see it as particularly weak. Not like I felt when I first heard If You Can't Stand The Heat. The funny thing now is, that latter album has stood the test of time a bit better. I'm still a big fan of I Should Have Known and Resurrection but several other tracks have fallen by the wayside and I've rarely played them over the years. I Love Rock And Roll is as poor as Quo ever got. Hackneyed and perhaps even lazy. Especially with I Want The World To Know covering the same lyrical ground. It would seem that Alan was fast running out of ideas! Although I never thought anything of it at the time. Poor choices of singles didn't detract from it's chart showing, mainly because of the hype and marketing surrounding the whole 20th anniversary thing and the Charlie gig. At the end of the day, the album has slipped way down the list of preferences in my personal Quo album chart. It's not lower than Back To Back. But maybe only just

But maybe only just Tbf, I think they were all out of ideas. Army, AC and PR shows highlights that Producing it themselves was a major mistake IMO. Needed an outside producer

To be fair, they were touring a LOT. And displaced geographically as a unit, with everyone a bit more separated than before.
A bit of time off from touring late 70's/early 80's and along comes two albums worth of material. Back on tour again in '81 and the studio output becomes weaker again.
Same with Back To Back.
Army really was more like leftovers, older songs brought in to make up the numbers, and songs written by outsiders.
Then the big tours started again, but they'd already lost their way creatively.

Compared to Back To Back, this is a colossus, compared to the three previous albums, this is insipid.
Compared to Dog Of Two Head, Piledriver and Hello, this is irrelevant.

The one that finished me off studio wise.
Had been really looking forward to its release. 20th year anniversary has to be a return to form and a proper Quo album after what I thought were a few iffy albums. How wrong was I.
Put it on and meh , rubbish. Never bought another Quo studio album after this.
Nothing I have heard since will change that either.

This is where the argument that everything is Francis’s fault falls flat for me.
Big man, I love rock n roll are probably the weakest tracks on the album for me.
At least Francis was still knocking out I should have known
Ricks contributions are good from memory.
She don’t fool me, resurrection and get out and walk are all decent.
I don’t think it’s necessarily as weak as Heat, but compared to the three that preceded it it’s nowhere near

I like the album with a few duds on it. Don't like the cover and where's the Status Quo logo?
