They obviously had a few sherberts before filming this even John seems happy in this video lol Great record it is a shame it didn’t do better as there were big expectations for it at the time.

Mrs Mortified's favourite. Strange one for me at the time. Trying to capitalise on the disco scene, although why they needed to is anyone's guess. I really like it now but I was unsure back then, I must admit. There were better exponents of disco. I'd never seen the video for years, possibly decades, and I think it's probably their best. They look cool as Iconic pic sleeve came with it in the UK. This would have worked live I reckon. There is also supposed to be a longer intro in the vaults somewhere that was never used. Could be an urban myth but I think Pip Williams hinted at that and it ultimately became the intro to Whatever You Want. Something like that anyway.

Always loved this one, such a catchy chorus, also like the lyrics. Nice one to sing along!

Why did this flop? It’s a great song although I prefer the album version with the extra verse?

Really good ending and instrumental bits.
The sound most have been a big shock to the hardcore of the time. I'll bet some were glad the single flopped
I don't like the "I tried to love you way" verse bits, doesn't sound like Quo to me.
An attempted sell out that failed, others followed 😊

A number of factors probably. All contributing to what was a complacency on my part, that's for sure. We'd all taken chart top 10's for granted. Quite surprisingly, Again And Again - as the first single from the album - didn't do too great. Not by the usual standards. So the signs were there that something wasn't quite as it was. Quo generally didn't release two singles from an album; Mystery Song had been the one exception and there was quite a gap after Rain. Maybe a good 7 or 8 months. Accident Prone came out fairly quickly as a second single. But that was to become the pattern of course. Punk and new wave were at their height and dominated the charts along with disco. Saturday Night Fever and Grease were the big things in 1978. I suspect the Rockin' album and singles the year before also had an impact. Quo fans were divided. They still are. Looking back, it was almost like the perfect storm.

Looking back, it was almost like the perfect storm. A good observation. From Again Again most of the follow up singles didn’t do as well as the lead ones. Marguerita time, In the army and Burning Bridges a few exceptions. The charts had changed drastically from 1976 to 1978 and the punk v disco thing going on and Quo caught in the middle but luckily weren’t swallowed up. Queen and Genesis survived it too with their singles and albums still selling well. I think this change of direction was maybe needed as just doing another Blue for you would have looked old hat. Trying to please multiple audiences and the fan base maybe a bit of a miss step and they were never going to go down the funk pop route like Queen were or try to compete with electronica or two tone revival etc. I think accident prone has got more respect now and always added to compilations and hits Quo dish out which wasn’t originally the case..

To be fair, it did well in some European countries, top 10 in Holland, top 20 in both Germany and Belgium, on a par with Again & Again and not far short of RAOTW.
Bear in mind the double A side of Rockers Rollin'/Hold You Back outperformed RAOTW in Belgium and Holland!!

It was a good one and they never looked better. A great time to be Quo fan, but only just: next came all the songs with an excellent intro but no Quo follow-up. We were struggling.
